11.3 Bridge Building (Pontoons) - rule

Battles In Normandy is the third game in the Decisive Battles game series. Battles in Normandy recreates all aspects of the Normandy campaign, from the landings on the first day to the final climax of the campaign at Falaise. Strategic Studies Group rewrote the Decisive Battles game engine for Battles in Normandy with a host of new special rules for amphibious and airborne operations, plus a huge number of other enhancements.

11.3 Bridge Building (Pontoons) - rule

Post by Adam Parker »

Guys rule 11.3 talks about "Bridge Building (Pontoons)", something new to the series and different to bridge repair.

The rule only states though, that these pontoons may only be built if adjacent to a blown bridge: "If the unit... is adjacent to a blown bridge, the bridge repair icon (a yellow bridge symbol) will appear on the other side of the bridge to the selected unit..."

Is this rules section right? Another thread here stated that pontoons could be built anywhere so long as unit capabilitiy and adjacent enemy unit criteria are met.

Shouldn't the yellow symbol be called a "Bridge Build Icon?"

Thanks,
Adam.

Adam,

Manual should read:

11.3 Bridge Building (Pontoons)

Change: “…is adjacent to a blown bridge…” to “…is adjacent to a river…”

Check the Run5 site for my change notes for the manual.

Thanks JSS. While waiting I just tried my first landing at Utah. Nifty [:D]

I'm certain that I'm going to enjoy this game.

Y'know considering Ardennes Offensive v4 is there too, I'd re-name this game ("Decisive Battles West Front 44" for example) and really feature the two huge campaigns more prominently in all marketing. That could help make the title more financially acceptable.

Btw - where is the best place to report typos etc.,? Here, Run5 or via email to someone? There's one on the Overlord briefing screen - minor thing of course but best not to clutter up the forums with such.

Thanks for the tip,
Adam.

JSS looked at the Run5 correction and thanks.

Are you officially working on the revamped rule book as part of this process?

It makes things interesting in TAO4 as you can now launch assets across a river to continue a breakout into the rear areas...[:D]
"Tanks forward"
