AI Purchases

Post by BA Evans »

I just started the Long Campaign and I saw some weird AI purchases. The AI (Polish) was Assaulting my positions. After the battle I found that the Polish force contained 16x 76mm ATG and 12x 75mm Infantry Field Guns.

The problem is that these guns were ALL placed within 3 hexes of the AI's board edge. There is no way these guns were going to affect the battle. None of them had any transport plus they were placed the farthest away from my troops as possible. Shouldn't the AI have at least placed these assets near the front of his deployment zone on an Assault mission?

There was no way that I was going to get all the way to the back edge of the AI's side of the map when I am on a Defend mission.

Did you have rarity turned on? Maybe the AI didn't have anything else to buy. Apparently in large point games this sometimes happens, it happened to me a couple of times, i turned rarity off and now it seems to work.

Again the AI buys at random based on some die rolls, sometimes it gets units that it doesn't use, particularly on the attack (which the AI doesn't do real well at)

FYI, similar problems where encountered by people (including me) here

and here

I've only seen this behavior with poles and brits and only in the early years. Later in the war the AI buys more sensible troops. Thus it's really no big problem.
