Problems creating scenario

Post by Szilard »

AI will not run when I try to create a new scenario.

I do this:

- Select "Overlord"
- Select "Edit Battle"
- Within the editor, create a new scenario called "Test" within a folder called "Test"
- Select "Save"
- Exit from BiN completely
- Restart BiN.
- Select "Test"
- "Play"
- Set Allied side to AI.
- Start it & hit the "run" arrow.
- Nothing happens - can move around map but can't select anything etc.

Am I doing anything wrong, or should I remember not to buy v1.0 games?

I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling BiN, rebooting, sacrificing a yearling etc etc.

For the AI to function you've got to create a set of orders for each side. This is done thru the editor.

The orders exist as *.aiy (allies) & *.aix (axis) files. These files must be in your scenario folder (along side the .*scn files) for the AI to do anything meaningful.

Writing these orders is straight forward (but time consuming[X(]). If you understand how to build AI groups and paint regions you can put this together. For a large scenario like Overlord this is a very large undertaking.

The good news! If you use the Overlord scenario for your test scenario (same AI groups & AI regions) you can simply copy the aiy & aix files from the Overlord scenario folder and the AI will function reasonably well.

You also can go into the editor and make changes to the AI orders you copied!

Excellent! Thanks for that.

I would have thought the "save" should do this for me automatically - SSG might want to look at that for the first patch. It'll probably confuse the hell out of everybody trying to learn the editor, unless it's just me being dumb.
