Operation Mercury photographs

This site has a heap of original photos of the German 1941 invasion of Crete. Be warned, some of the content is extremely graphic and disturbing.

Very cool, and yes disturbing. Made me stop to think about the "games" I play on my computer.

Those poor FJs look miserably hot in most of those photos.

Don't forget to model the exhaustion caused by those jump suits! [;)]

Valuable photos. They really prove that the old lie "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori" is indeed a lie.

It's so easy to forget the horrors of war while playing wargames and moving those squares with symbols on them around the map...

Surprising to see how old alot of the dead German para's were, mid 20's and quite a few from the same year groups. I'm sure that is no coincidence.

War is brutal.

Interesting photos and disturbing as lethal combat always is ...

I love war games as an intellectual pursuit, but consider war to be on of the greatest unnatural disasters of which human's are afflicted.

I also spend a lot of time watching historical documentaries on Iraq, WWII, Vietnam, the Civil War, ... As terrible as it is, war is a fascinating topic as it has been a central activity by which our societies and lives have been shaped.

Well, maybe I am get too philosphical for a game forum ...

Marvelous Photos. The dead soldiers disturbing, but the amount of destroyed equipment was very instructive.
