Well I find that I can only get one turn in per 24Hrs with an "overseas" player........I'd like to ramp things up a bit and try and get a game that flows a tad faster. It's not my fault that you guys live on the wrong side of the planet.[8|]

If I was not deploying to Iraq, I would take you on Raver. Me and Ron have averaged a month per week in our game.

Well it seems that everyone is afraid to play against me[&:] So looks like I'll have to drop my standards[8|] and open the invite to overseas players.

G'day mate, Raver I would take you on as the Japanese if I was not already running wild thru the SRA against Captain Ed. Geez, we could play night and day while we visit next year. Maybe not a good idea as Kim would kill me and leave me to the sharks off the reef![X(]

I enjoyed your AAR and I'd lick my fingers to play you (due to time difference my gaming hours would even match yours if you're mainly playing on evenings or later), but I don't want to run more than 1 big campaign as Jap.

Guess I can't bait you to switch sides? I'd throw in some excel spreadsheets for aiding in turn 1 setup and production planning.

ME play the Japs ? NEVER! Funny thing is I don't mind playing as the Germans but I simply have real problems playing as the Japanese. I grew up hearing and reading to much about the treatment of Allied POWS.

Nazis were far from being holy men either. Aussies never faced SS outfits and liberated no concentration camps, right?

Anyway, all respect for your attitude.

You are correct. When I was a young boy I used to be baby sat by a woman who's husband was in Changi, even though he made it through alive he was never the same and used to have odd habits such as hording very small items in matchboxes and not likeing either dark places or small places. Now given that I was only 5 years old back then, it all struck me as somewhat odd, but knowing what I know now I shudder to think what he went through to to be left scarred like that.
Putting aside what happened to the jews, the Germans were seen as a more.....and I am struggling for the correct word here....."civilized"?........... enemy than the Japanese.
I have read of accounts of what happened in the Europe war, so I am well aware that this is a somewhat simplist attitude and my been seen as such by others.

It's only human to see things more distinct that happened in the neighbourhood.

As for civilized: The war in North Africa, Italy and Western Front may have been fought more or less gallantly, apart from single atrocities and the dirty war against partisans (involving bad treatment of innocent civilians), but the Eastern Front and treatment of eastern civilians and pow's there was very different. One Nazi goal was to gain living space in the east for their "Herrenrasse", their arish/arian (? English is a foreign language for me.....) super race, so lost slav (?) lives didn't matter much, and not only SS units were committing atrocities in the east but also "normal" Wehrmacht soldiers..... Orders from above was the widespread excuse, one reason why I'm getting a headache when I listen to people who blindly trust their political and military leadership nowadays..... But I'm drifting off topic.

Just one more point: Jews were not the only "customers" at concentration camps. Political opponents, gipsies, homosexuals and folks picked up by Gestapo ended up in camps as well. Forced labor on hunger rations and torture were not only practised by Japs....

English POW Camps in North Africa weren't that better. Both my granfathers have been jailed there. Both my grandmas told me in which conditions(physically and mentally) they came back in 1946. I think there's never been a POW camp that can be called "civil".

Your right about that.
I read "To war in a Stringbag" this year for the first time.
In it, the author relates his experiences in a POW camp set up in Algeria, run by the Vichy. Not exactly a rsort there either. He was released by the Vichy just after Torch, with the Vichy authorities trying to score "points" with the Allies.[8|]
