Invasion Russia

Post by moses »

While waiting for TOPHAT to send me a turn, I'm runnig a head to head invasion of Russia according to my modified Hiroto plan. 5 SRA and 5 China divisions are in position to attack. 1 ind SRA bds will hit Ohka on turn one. 11 divisions and 2 eng rgts will invade at hex 63,60 enroute to Vladestock. The other at start forces just north of Vladestock will apply pressure from the north. 11 other division will attack at Blagoveshehensk on turn one. Russian forces are not capable of being redeployed prior to activation so they are in at start locations.

I know Hirohito will complain that I should send everything in at one location but I'm going to do it this way first.

Any ideas on how I should manuever the russion forces will be appreciated. Unless Tophat sends a turn this will go fast.

Troops all cross the border on 26 DEC activating the russians. No air attacks are allowed prior to this so the game really begins with the 27 Dec turn.

Its pretty obvious that russia has air superiority in fighters unless Japan brings in navel aircraft. So to keep things simple I'm going to stand down the JP aircraft. I'll let Russia use its three bomber units so it will be slight advantage to russia but will allow me to go quicker and will probably have little effect on the outcome.

That is one of Hirohito's theories shot to pieces, literaly. I was wondering how the IJA air force would fare against LaGG-3, Yak-1 and MIG's. Nates are useless a/c. I have not yet reached all my attack positions yet and am also waiting to bring in IJN air units.

I am going to use at least 3 Zero units and all Army bomber units. I am not going to do a sea assualt though.

Yes I didn't realize this until I started setting the air missions. Russian air is far better unless you bring in a bunch of zero's. I don't know if there will be much effect since its a constant blizzard. But for sure Japan cannot count on much air support and will take some hits to russian air.

The heavy russian bombardment in the north caused a lot of disruption and will delay the attack there by another turn at least. Both assaults crossed a river and so bombardments are require while I reduce disruption. Next turn JP does attack in south.

Are you just doing combat action in Russia/Manchuria with everything else stood down?

I am playing the whole shebang to see what kind of hell I can raise as the allies.

The russian division retreats in the south but the fort unit stands firm and will have to be attacked again. In the North the russian again gets off a good bombardment which has disruption of some of my divisions at 70. I will bombard for one more turn to see if I can get better odds for an assault.

The attack in the north fails. I have no confidance now. Russians are defending with 2 divisions and a bde with a lot of supporting artillery. Three divisions and a bde are on their way from vic. Iman. I will bombard for a while and see if it has an effect. All JP divisions in the north have disruption between 70 and 80.

In the south Japan is advancing but Vladestok has defences similar to Blagoveschensk in the North. 2 further divisions and three brigades are on their way.

I'm becoming skepticle of this attack.

Perhaps giving the soviet air force free reign was too generous. I'm going to ground everything for a few turns. Russians appear to be clearly winning in the north.

Hi moses,

very interesting AAR. Nice to see that someone gives Hirohitos 2nd plan a try! Seems that Japan needs both more airpower and ground strenght to be successfull. Hope you'll continue this for some time to see how things are developing after the first attacks.

Not looking good for you. Those Russian bombardments are brutal. I wonder if Hirohito looked to see how big the Russian divisions were. They are on par with Japanese divisions.

I am still moving my units forward to their assualt positions. I now have 2 Zero units in place, waiting until I can safely transfer in at least 2 more before trying anything.

Rienforcements have arrived at Vladestock amd Blagoveshensk. The russians are now optimally deployed. There are a couple arty units still coming down from the north. I left a couple divions in the north to watch all the mongolian divisions japan has there. Japan has most everything in the battle exept a couple divisions still marching to the fort positions around vladestok. Its pretty much a battle of attrition from here.
