Adding Banner Pic

Post by DrewMatrix »

I know this has been explained repeatedly, but I still can't do it.

How do I put a picture (which I have) in my signature?

The instructions in the Profile section describe how to do it if the picture is on a web page. Is there a way for me to simply upload a picture from my computer? Can I insert the picture in a posting on this Forum and then use _that_ posted picture?

Please use very simple words of one syllable to explain this to me. Use explicit examples. Crude diagrams in crayon might help. Assume I am rather dense. You will be close to the truth.

Thanks.

you can "cheat" the forum by using a picture that you have included in a previous post. here's how to do it (looking for crayon font...can't find it) [:'(]

1) insert the sig picture you want to use in the body of a post
2) view your post after submitting and right click on the perspective sig attachment in the body of your post
3) select Properties
3) copy the URL address. it should look something like upfiles/13770/Bz778066999.jpg
4) paste this address in the Signature box of your My Profile section of the forum. you must use image and /image (each enclosed in brackets) in the front and end of the address, as explained in the pdg code section of the My Profile section
5) select the "Always attach signatures in posts" check box

of course, as soon as the forum admins decide to purge the upload section, all of our sigs stored there will be removed, but that hopefully will be a while.

hope that is simple enough...i have problems with it also, because i was capitalizing the "I" in "image"

You aren't "dense" Beezle..just "special".

Here is the best way I have found:

1) Open a free acct at Photobucket.com

2) Upload your jpg or gif file to your new Photobucket page....very simple.

3) When uploaded, look at the little windows under the picture...find the one that starts Image Copy the text in that window using left click and drag with your mouse...make sure you also copy the text spilling over the window dimension by dragging all the way to the right in the window.

4) Paste that text into the "Signature" window of the matrix forums "Profile" section. It should now have format Image

5) Edit both all caps "IMG" text to lower case "img" and "/img"

6) Click the "always show signature" box...et voila

PS...when you were a kid...was your school bus the standard length or was it ...? [;)][:D]

Trainable if not educable.

Thanks a lot, guys.[:D]

One of my problems (there are others) was using the pointy brackets (above the comma and period keys) rather than the square brackets (below the parentheses keys). Another place I post stuff requires the pointy brackets, not the square ones. Presumably just so the cognoscenti can lord it over the hoi poloi or some such reason.

I use ImageShack to host my graphics and pics. I frequent another forum that is very graphic intense and the experienced posters there almost unanimously recommend it. I've found it to be easy to use and its free. http://www.imageshack.us/
