Gosh:
"As for the Eastern Front game, we hope to get back to it within the next few months as well. We expect that Mike Wood of Matrix Games will be working with us on this project. We will have some work cut out for us as we switch the game from an older engine to the new engine, but with Keith's help, Mike will be able to accomplish this task. Although the game is a game for the grognard's, we believe that it is early enough in the game's development to warrant switching engines.
The switch makes sense for the long-term success of the game and any other's that might follow it. The basic design of the game has not changed since we worked on it in 2000/2001. It will be a turn-based game with weekly turns and 10 mile hexes. It will not have an execution phase, but instead will have movement and combat all in one phase. We think it will be a relatively easy game to play, although it will be massive in befitting the size of the Eastern Front. One of my favorite games of all time is War in the East from SPI, so I'm really looking forward to being able to work on our own war in the east game, using everything we've learned over the last 10 years regarding interface design, graphics and AI.
Mike will continue to spend some time patching WitP, but will transition over the next few months to work primarily on Eastern Front. Keith will continue to be our technology guru, and will assist both Gary and Mike while they work on these two projects. He'll also invest some of his time to look into some new ideas that we have regarding a project which we all hope to get to in 2006 or 2007, Steel Panthers IV."

If I interpret that correctly it means a totally different game with IGO-UGO mechanics.
???

I guess they simply mean that you do the plotting and the movement in the same phase, don’t they? What does IGO-UGO mean? [&:]
Brother: At this forum, I actually got in contact with some of the developers:

Try to influence them during the development!

RE: WiR 4 will see the light!!!
i go - you go sorta sounds like panzer general type battles, which is you actually move the piece instead of plotting, and if you run into the enemy the battle is resolved immediately. the hexes being 10 miles across is almost crazy - i thought the WiR map was HUGE when i first started playing! but i'm not complaining, since WiR is a great 'beginner' game to train with![;)] and division sized units with the armies/korps as HQ's - that's quite the flood of units to look after! but all i care about is we still get to play with individual tanks, aircraft, and production - that's all the fun!
unfortunately, i wouldn't expect to see this game for 2 years MINIMUM - these guys know how to do it right, and doing it right is never easy!

RE: WiR 4 will see the light!!!
IGO-UGO:-
Players take it in turns to move and shoot, there is no "plotting" and no computer-controlled execution phase. See Steel Panthers, Panzer Campaigns, Decisive Battles or ToAW series for examples. Can make for some really gamey stuff because the player chooses which units to move first ...
Like I said, if this is the case with the new game it makes it fundamentally different. That doesn't mean it won't be any good though

yey,i'm very happy to hear about that .i'm looking forward all of these goodnews.
RE: WiR 4 will see the light!!!
Just a note to say that the developer's journal is updated again. Says that they are hoping for about 18 months to release. First time I've heard a number put on it and that makes me happy. I'll be happy if its 24 months. (of course, I'd be happier with 12).
Thanks in advance to the whole matrix and 2by3 team for making this happen (yes, I know that there has been no public announcement that Matrix is picking the game up, but who else???)

Tapping Foot. . . . . [:D]
How can it be 18 months away with no official announcement...??[&:]
C'mon Matrix, at least tell us that you are working on the details....[8D]
Just a couple of crumbs would suffice for now...

YES!
We have been waiting. Hope that you can do it the way you did Pacific war!
I am bit [8|] about what happens to plotting which has it's good sides. I think you could impore it Matrix!
But anyways,
GREAT!

This is Panzer General 1 with more accurate history. The separate execution phase is what sets WiR apart from a huge bunch of other wargames. Instead of improving the concept to a single execution phase for both players (all units moving simultaneously, just like in real life), it gets thrashed. Yuck.
