Finally! A Football strategy game.

Well, I'm excited. Brilliant idea, Dave.

Will there be league play? How will it work? Free agency? Rookie draft?

Also, how will the computer sim comp vs comp games? I actually don't mind waiting a little bit for the computer to perform fast forward games as opposed to canned simulations not based on the game engine.

There are two ways to play computer on computer to simulate games. One way (my personal favourite) is to set both teams to computer mode and watch the game unfold graphically. It's the same graphics for coaching or arcade, only it's the computer playing itself (based on your team coaching profiles, etc...). And in December, when there is no more football in my part of the world, it fills the void for watching games on TV.

The other way is to go into league mode and quick sim a game. This displays a running scoreboard and some other nice things without showing player graphics or the like. Game speed is about 2x as fast so it unfortunately stll takes a few minutes to simulate out a game. Speeding it up more than that twisted the statistics too much.

The good things is that this mode plays a full game using EXACTLY the same game code used to play the game graphically. I can't say for sure, but considering Madden 'simulates' a game in about 1/10th of a second, I think they're probably using a canned algorthym to generate statistics. Maximum-Football actually plays out the game providing a box score as the game goes along. I think this is the way the old Sierra product did it as well.

If you want more information on features you should look at www.maximum-football.com There is an FAQ there that answers those questions.
