Hail Caesar, Master of the World!

Matrix Games Signs Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar, Releases New Screenshots!

Matrix Games announced today that they have signed Koios Works’ (www.koiosworks.com) latest title in the Tin Soldiers series, Julius Caesar. Using the same general play style of Tin Soldiers: Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar makes massive improvements to the graphical engine along with numerous game changes to correctly mimic the change in armies and army tactics for the time period.

David Heath, Director of Operations for Matrix Games said, “We’re very pleased to continue to bring this series to the fans of historic war games. We have high hopes for the Tin Soldiers series to become a dominant player in strategy gaming, both with fans of miniatures and with a larger audience who prefer easy-to-learn but difficult-to-master strategy games.”

Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar brings a completely new 3D engine into the battle, allowing users to zoom in, out, and rotate the map for a better view of the battlefield. The artwork overhaul features over 100 different replicas of hand-painted miniatures, including the fearsome legions of Caesar himself. On the inside of the game the AI has been overhauled as well to support a variety of battle formations while the legions of Caesar have been expanded from the normal block of four units to a more powerful block of six. This allows you to replicate the power and strength the Roman legions possessed.

The campaign mode features two distinct campaigns that no longer occur in linear order. You must defeat the Gaelic campaign and the final showdown against the combined forces of Gaul at Alesia and then proceed to the Roman civil war, where you will conquer Rome itself. By keeping many of the aspects that made Tin Soldiers: Alexander the Great popular and improving it in many areas; Tin Soldiers: Julius Caesar will be appealing to both existing fans and newcomers alike.

Have a question is this going to be another "linear" campaign like Alexander was or is this one going to allow the player to pick and choose what factions to attack, when and where?

BTW love the design features of the maps and units. But, I'm not a fan of linear. Also how about a random battle geneartor in this one? Random Maps? Random Random Random stuff? ;)
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

Couldn't get a link to work so here's a quote from the 'new announcement' thread in the Alexander forum:
In the new game, there are 3 distinct phases: Gallic War, Alesia and Civil War. You can fight any of the battles in whatever order you like in the Gallic War. Once Caesar gains enough "prestige", you will then have to face the combined armies at Alesia. After Alesia, you will be challenged by Rome, and you must cross the Rubican and fight in the Civil War.

Other than being forced to fight at Alesia once the Gallic campaign is over, the game does not force you to fight on a rail. So, hopefully that makes you happy.

Deride
I don't know if there are "random" aspects.

Ok that helps understand how it plays out. Sounds better than Alexander. Random extra features would make me "happier" though of course.

I will say the art of the units is very good. Almost makes me want to reach through my monitor and pick them up to look at them more closely.

These guys do excellent artwork.

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting this one. I'm a diehard fan of anything Romanistic and mostly Ancient History, except for Alexander lol When you never lose a battle, it's not much fun playing someone like that, there's nothing to prove other than I guess never to lose a battle either. lol

Also the Alesia battle alone probably would have perked me to buy this game, I've wanted an Alesia battle on the computer ever since playing Caesar at Alesia board game by Avalon Hill.

Sounds like we get 3 games in one, Gallic war, Caesar at Alesia and the Punic Wars? Am I correct here? Or is it just a portion of the Punic Wars?

I think the civil war was Caesar against Pompeius to gain control of the Roman empire. The punic wars happened between 264 BC and 146 BC and that's a bit before Caesar's time.
