Battle of Britian by Talonsoft

Post by diesel7013 »

I've looked on E-bay and have not been able to find this for sale, does anyone else have an idea where I can go to get this??
I have Bombing the Reich, but I think I'd like this one better ( I can finish a campaign in my lifetime!! [:D] )

Thanks in advance for the help!

Too bad.

Several months ago Future Shop here had tons of copies of Battle of Britain going for $7.00 a pop.

I was going to buy several, but only bought one.

Hopefully, it may appear one day on the doggie site... [;)]

I've bought things from NWS before, and will do so again, but he only has Rowan's BOB which is a flight sim. I don't think he has any Talensoft games.

Over here we had a triple set of TOAW2, BoB and Chickamauga released on a budget (Xplosiv series). Might be worth checking for a similar American release.

I LOVED picking up those old Talonsoft box sets! $19.95 games and combo-packs are my ultimate weakness (well, when not buying clothes, of course!)

Business Idea

Post by rhondabrwn »

Wouldn't it be fantastic if there was an "on demand" fulfillment center for "out of print" computer games that haven't been released to the public domain? A site that could offer a legitimate download of old Talonsoft (and other companies) games or an actual CD copy mailed to you. I'm thinking here of a company that would take on the games that the original developers no longer distribute and provide the distribution point while paying a royalty for each copy sold.

In this age of personal high quality photo printers and CD/DVD printing capabilities, producing professional looking game copies is a piece of cake, even for a small home hobby business. Having a legitimate source would also remove the questionable ethics of copying your old games for a friend or two just because the games are commercially unavailable.

Over at Wargamer's HQ, for example, it seems like people are always looking for copies of Century of Warfare (COW).

The big question is whether the owners of these old titles would cooperate in letting such a centralized source be created. It would certainly be a big asset for the wargaming community.

Fair dreams to be sure, only from what I've heard there is at least one particular hurdle, that is, if these game producers would sign up for it, then they would be liable in some sense of providing support for them. Even if they didn't have to support them in some way, they would still have to hide from those who would expect support of them anyway. From the paltry amount they would get out of it, it probably wouldn't be worth the risk or pain. Just imagine the number of people who would expect them to be updated to run on an XP, and even if they didn't they would then expect support in being told how to get them to run on XP's themselves.

Both BoB & BTR run fine on XP. Play them every week or so. Both turn up on ebay often.

You might want to check on **THIS** thread over at the Steakhouse. There's a guy posted today (I assume it's the Talonsoft one) that wants to trade it [:)]

It looks like BOB is for sale here:

It looks like there's tons of out of print stuff there. If anyone tries this site, I'd be interested to see if they would reccomend it.

Heh WWII online is $3.99 there, lol, does anyone play that anymore? It was so messed up on release I don't think it ever climbed out of the cellar of mmorpgs.

You think wrong. For a start it is isn't an RPG at all, and never has been. Its an FPS, although the tanks and aircraft are as worthy of the word "simulation" as in any other PC game I can think of.

A shaky start because it was released way to early, but a year on it was the best online game available. It still was the last time I played 18 months or so ago; I only quit because it demands large chunks of time at one go that I just don't have.

Yes I should have stated it was a MMOG, but, since it is listed along with the other mmorpgs as a stat of mmog's I called it the normal mmorpg. You do role play in it to a point, you take command of an individual soldier, or tank or ship or plane or artillery piece or whatever, you are taking on a role you aren't strategically commanding a force or operational type play.

And it is at the very bottom of mmogs. less than 15,000 subscribers last check in November of 2004. I think Shadowbane might go lower though lol. It really turned into a flop of a mmog.

Personally I just can't see paying a monthly fee to play this game since games like BF1942 and the like are free to play online and give the same overall play as WWII online does, you get more of a campaign play feel out of WWII online, but, that hardly warrants a $10 fee per month, when just going out and fighting is the key element in them anyway.

If it was a "flop" it wouldn't still be around after four years. Comparing numbers with the elves, dwarves and pixie stuff is irrelevant, the user base and server needs are totally different.

WW2OL is NOTHING LIKE BF1942, other than the subject matter. Joint Ops is a slightly better comparison, but (despite their lack of infantry) Warbirds and Aces High are better ones.
