Soviet Union - 1940 Campaign Start

Post by paullus99 »

Ok - here's the latest AAR. I'm taking the SU with the 1940 campaign start.

Here's the beginning of my research - concentrating on upgrading my defenses first.

Now here is the land situation in Spring 1941 - Germany is concentrated in the West & South, while my borders are fairly weak as well. I will attempt to build up Leningrad to prevent early capture & reinforce the south to inflict maximum damage on any invading force (lots of artillery with some infantry backing).

Here is a look at my research, as of Spring 1940. My defense levels are moving up & in anticipation of the German assault in the Summer - this should prove useful.

Summer 1941 - The German attack

The German assault did as much damage as I was expecting. I lost Eastern Poland, the Baltics, Odessa & Kiev. I was able to hold Kharkov & reinforce using my reserves from Moscow.

I've reinforced the front lines in hope of filling in the gaps with my militia mobilization.

Fall 1941 - The Consolidation

The AI took Belorussia & attacked my positions with air. I've reinforced my forward positions as much as possible, hoping to use my superiority in numbers to make a decisive assault in the winter.

Winter 1942 - Our Counteroffensive

Using the majority of our militia, backed up with armor, we assaulted the forward German positions & recaptured Velilikiye Luki & Belorussia. Our supplies are at about 75 at this point, so we will need to build more to support further actions. The Germans still have substantial forces in the East - so we anticipate heavy losses in the Spring.

Spring 1942 - The Attack Continues

Taking advantage of favorable AI dispositions, we assault the Baltics & reinforce Belorussia for a decisive strike in the summer. Our supplies are low however & the need to move them from the West (the Urals) is draining our ability to continue to attack forward at the pace we would like.

Summer 1942 - Deep Strike

The AI left itself open in Western Poland to a deep attack by our armor. We were able to penetrate all the way to Hungary & put ourselves in a position to take Romania. It will be interesting to see how the AI deals with us now.

Fall 1942 - Rising Tide & Resurgence

The AI crushes our forces in Western Poland, but loses Romania & Kiev to our counterattacks. At this point, our supplies are almost drained with the constant attacks. The Western Allies have provided some aid, but their focus seems to be completing the liberation of North Africa.

Winter 1943 - Consolidation

We moved additional forces into Romania in anticipation of a decisive 1943 campaign. Small forces were moved into Bulgaria & Yugoslavia to prevent the use of resources there by the Germans.

We also used our forces in Leningrad to liberate/occupy Finland. Next stop, Norway.

We are low on our own resources, as we have only repaired rail service to our liberated territories & repaired no factories or resources ourselves.

Spring 1943 - Riot

We've moved in force into Yugoslavia, Hungary & Eastern Poland. The hope is to find a chink in the AI's defensive belt & either cut off or destroy vital elements of its armies. It has grown difficult for us to move forward the necessary supplies & reinforcements past our own borders. The limits of the transportation system are making themselves felt.

We were able to liberate Norway however, which should also begin to make the resource crunch felt in Berlin.

Summer 1943 - Rebuff

An attempt to capture East Prussia was rebuffed by a stought defense. Our attacking forces were thrown back with ease - we need to research our attacking modifers more & move more armor into the front lines. The one bright spot, Albania was liberated.

Fall 1943 - Counterattack

In a very uneven tradeoff, we were able to capture Austria, but suffer a severe setback when our southern armies were annihilated in a huge battle in Yugoslavia. Our positions in the north are secure, but I fear we may lose the Balkans once again to the German onslaught.

Winter 1944 - Consolidation Again

Using our overwhelming superiority in numbers, we crushed AGN in Western Poland. Bringing us to within sight Berlin. We reinforced our positions in the South, with the intention to recapture Yugoslavia & we lost Austria.

The Western Allies finally get off their butts & take Southern Italy.

Spring 1944 - Old News, Same News

Nothing much to report - we continue to reinforce our positions & find it nearly impossible to bring both supplies & reinforcements to the front lines. The rails just do not carry all we need. In the Far East, we begin to build transports for our intended campaign against Japan (when the time is right).

Summer 1944 - Beginning of the End

The Western Allies finished the conquest of Italy, while we were able to finally take Austria in force.

Fall 1944 - Berlin

The Western Allies created a huge beachhead in Western France, forces the Germans to bring a majority of their forces west. We were able to take advantage of this turn of events & assault Eastern Germany directly. We were able to capture Berlin & Czechslovakia directly.

The end of the war is in sight - we are already beginning to move forces East to deal with the Japanese.

Winter 1945 - Not Quite Dead

The Germans are not yet defeated. Although the Western Allies have landed a huge army in France - the defenses of the Reich are still strong. Our forces mass for the final assault & redundant forces are sent East to face Japan.

Spring 1945 - Repulse

Zhukov hit Western Germany with everything in our arsenal. Despite heavy fighting & massive casualties on both sides - we are repulsed. Troops are moved forward for what we hope will be the final attack in the Summer.

Summer 1945 part 1 - Lost Opportunity

Despite our buildup, the Western Allies got their first & eliminated the last elements of the Nazi regime. Our troops are moved East, in the hope of trumping the Americans & taking the Japanese ourselves.
