CV "re-spawn"

Post by michaelm75au »

If unhappy about what is respawn, here is a thought ...
When an American CV is sunk and is put back into the list as a Essex-class CV, you can make it come back as another type of CV.

The "respawn" uses the contents of Class slot 240. If you move the contents of the Essex class to some other slot (and adjust the Ships based on this class), you can change the contents.

I modified my scenario so that Class slot 240 was a Long Island type CVE. So when the Lexington sank, a new Lexington showed up as a CVE in the reinforcements.

One note, though. The air groups associated with the original ship will return on the new ship. In the above case, I ended up with 90 aircraft on a carrier with capacity of 16..basically an air transport vessel.

The same thing probably applies to the respawned cruisers. You could modify the Class slot for Baltimore/Cleveland to be some other class.

We have a non respawn version of the mod in the works. Can be played as USN vs Japanese AI or PBEM. All the historical hulls, from CV down to sub and DE, which were removed by Grigsby's dream police in favour of the respawn have been placed back in (some have original names, some those of cancelled ships, and some have fictitious names). If a ship is lost and a new one spawned, the spawned ship is simply left inactive in San Francisco.
