ODD BEHAVIOR

Post by Panta_slith »

Playing SOVIET TANK RUSH, WP, side. When clicking on a blue unit, all BLUE OB appears, including air strike plots, like if I had a super-spy amid the capitalist forces.
(Playing on another machine at work)
As I prefer fair play, here goes the .txt file.
Best regards,
Panta

Thanks for the report and the game files. I am on my wife's Mac right now, but when I get back to my own machine I will download them and take a peek at what is going on.

A question: if you have the game setup setting "Browse Enemy Units" on then you will get this behaviour. It is meant to help new players to wargames get going. Is it on? If you turn it off are you then restricted to just what you want to see?

Cheers, Rob.

Sorry for the delay, Rob, I was out of town.
No, I never play with that feature on, since it will take all the fun off my game.
Here goes also the corresponding .sav , in case you would like to inspect it too.
Best regards,
Panta

Ok, this really helps. I believe that all you have to do is change a simple setting in the game setup / options page. The attached image shows an option called "Allow Browsing of Enemy Units". You have it checked in the game you supplied, and yes indeed, you can browse enemy units as you describe. If you go to the menu item File / Game Options you will see this screen. Just uncheck the item and you will have the game the way you want it.

Happy campaigning!

Cheers, Rob.

Tx Rob,
Maybe I did it unintentionally while trying the different game possibilities. I hope that's the case, so all I need to do is to be more careful.

Exploring is the fun part! I'm just glad somebody did it.

This 'feature' is for complete beginners so that they can work their way up the learning curve as quickly as possible. When I set it up it seemed pretty logical and orderly but that was 3 years ago. Now that I look at it again it all just sort of merges into one big blob. Maybe I should change the captions around or do something else to make the effect more clear to the player.

Hmmmmm, Rob

Rob,
another oddity I´ve just found, though not too annoying:
While giving orders to a unit (btw, I would like to have a shorcut for it to avoid having to right click and then on the menu every time), you can validate (Proceed) your orders with the [P] key, and it depicts a nice path of arrows. OTOH, if you Cancel your orders [c] you cancel them but it also depicts the coverage at the same time, so you have to hit it again. Not too bad, but I wanted you to know it.
Cheers,
Panta
