Hey all,

How difficult is it to learn this game? It seems to be very detail orientated, and ive never played the original or Uncommon Valor.

I´ve never played UV too and managed it to learn it in playing it several hours with reading the manual. And English isn´t even my native language. You will see, it´s manageable.

the most important thing that you have to learn about this game is how to manage your time with it. it's incredible time consumer. [;)]
aside from this it's easy to learn how to play.

If he's from California, English probably isn't his native language either.[:D]

The game is fairly complex. Lots of units to micromanage. You have to keep an tabs on computer controled forces. They can do some unexpected things.
If you are a WWII history buff this is the game for you! Start with smaller scenarios to get the feel for the mechanics. After a while you'll be posting on this forum like all the other vets do. Sharing their combat experiences.

WITP is the best game of this period to come out in a long long time. There probably won't be another like it for even longer.[;)]

And if your from Indianapolis you either speak hillbilly or slum/getto [:D]. My parents grew up in Cincinnati and there was Hillbilly on Mom's side and Pop couldn't even say his first name until his mid-twenties (Oil versus Earl) from living in the poor part of town. They took pity on me after WWII an brought me to California were I could learn to speak and even quite-a-bit of spanish although not fluently. So I guess you could say I know four languages. English, Spanish, Hillbilly and Slum.

There is a 3 part learning curve.

Part one: Learning how to play the game, get supply to the right locations, fly your planes, control the seas and fight on land. You have to understand game mechanics to do these things correctly until you do your units will behave in strange frustrating ways.

Part 2: Learning how to plan offensives a defensives against the AI. The art of getting enough of the right stuff to the right place to have a chance at winning.

Part 3: Learning to fight a human opponent. Depending on who you happen to play this can be a very humbling experience. None of us want to embarass eachother so the really crushing defeats don't get into the AARs very often but there are games where the Allied counter attack started in March 1942.

Hey all,

another thing. playing the medium size scenarios will help figure out the most efficient way to look at all of your units so you are not overwhelmed by the size of the entire year scenarios like i was (and i have played Wacht am Rhein board game which is the entire Battle of the Bulge in battalion and company level units). i am using rising sun scenario for that while writing a comprehensive story/AAR on coral sea.

something to keep in the back of your mind. after learning the basic game mechanics look at it this way
in the battle of the coral sea (may 1942 the first carrier battle) you know more about carrier tactics, japanese tactics, what works best than Admiral Fletcher did when he fought the battle. and he didn't have a save the previous day and redo.
