PT Killer light AA

Post by shark »

I have been using DD TFs to destroy PT groups.

However the damage incured from the PT Light AA is a bit silly. 4.7 Turrets have been destroued, severe engine damage ,etc etc by .50Cal Hits, even at several thousand yards range where its KE and hence penetration should be minimal.

My DDs do not seem to reply with their full AA capacity which should certinly easily destroy Plywood PTs. In fact sometimes a single PT soaks up Numerous 4.7" hits before sinking.

Sure the odd PT should get a torp hit in, but a fast DD TF should minimise these and put up a deadly fire. It seems you can only get 2 PTs before the rest withdraw, and the damage they cause to DDs , (A Class that was designed originaly to DESTROY Torpedo Boats),Is far too high!!!

Its because DDs have no armor. Many modders have made their scenarios to give DDs at least 5 mm of armor, which won't deflect an actual shell, but stop MGs from penetrating.

Many mods have given armor ratings to all ships to alleviate this, after all, they are steel ships and not canvas. Nothing worse than watching a DD explode from a .30 cal round. How Hollywood! Remember the "Rat Patrol" with the cardboard Afrika Corps tanks and the retard Capt Dietrich who never gets relieved for being made a fool of every episode!?[X(][8|]

Blackwatch does something that makes his DD TFs murder on my PTs I am not sure what, possibley attack during the daylight surface combat phase? Perhaps he will post the anwer.

You can always put some fighters on 100 ft sweep to clean them up as well. They don't like that much either.

Yes, I never liked how PT machine guns could seriously damage a 2000-10000 ton ship. I could see taking out an unarmored gun emplacement or radar, but thats about it.

*** bump ***

My UV question, any taker ?

Will that oversight be corrected in a future patch or not (i.e. a minimum of armor to DD to avoid this problem) ?
