Alpha availability on Spooky's.

Post by Ron Saueracker »

From what I understand from Spooky, Don Bowen has sent the Alpha to him today and Marc said it should be available tonight. There might be a few art issues at this point so keep your socks on.[:D]

We want feedback on any mechanical deficiencies first like CTD problems...we can get to OOB issues and stuff later.

Sorry guys - this is only the first part of the Alpha. We still have some work to do on the map and with the aircraft art. Not quite yet, but soon ...

The Combined Historical Scenario is almost ready! We are waiting for one last (important) art work update before sending it to Spooky. However, since Spooky will not be available next week we will be sending the scenario to him this evening, even if the updated art is not available.

This is a "late Alpha"/"early Beta" release. It has been tested but several new items have been added at the last minute and the possibility of "fall down go boom" is definitely there. If you do have a serious problem while playing the scenario, please let us know as precisely as possible what caused it.

The scenario will use Andrew Brown’s Version 3 map WITH the special map extension. You can download and install the Map Mod NOW using the link Andrew has provided: Maps. Thanks to Andrew for his hard work and for making this special download site available.

The remainder of the scenario will be available at Spooky’s – hopefully tomorrow. Sorry – documentation is rather sparse (as in tain’t any yet).

All of us owe a Thank You to Spooky as well. His excellent site is a major resource to all players of WITP!

Really looking forward to seeing what you boys have come up with. Thanks in advance for your hard work and the seriousness with which you approached this task. And even if all you accomplished in the end was to keep Ron busy for a month, well, that in itself was a great community service![;)][;)]

Seriously, many thanks. I have no doubt that this will be the scenario to play.

The last of the scenario files have been sent to Spooky. He still has some work to do before it is available but you-all can begin to hold your breath!

IMPORTANT: the CHS scenario uses new artwork - expanded ship art and ALL NEW AIRCRAFT ART. It also uses Andrew Brown's modified map but he has provided a backup-and-restore mechanism for the map file. We do not, as yet, have such a capability for the other art files.

BACK UP YOUR FILES. Your Ship art files and your aircraft art files:
AlliedShip_Back Directory
AlliedShip_Transp Directory
JapShip_Back Directory
JapShipShills_transp Directory
A_PlaneSide.bmp File
Aptop.bmp File
Aptop_Alpha.bmp File
J_PlaneSide.bmp File
Jptop.bmp File
Jptop_Alpha.bmp File

All of these are located in your ART directory under War in the Pacific. Back them up or you will lose the originals!

To Fully test this out and though is not Historic it would pay to activate Soviets from start
to test Art - map - and new location - check original game manual on how to do this with Scen/Database editor - if more info need come back here - have lots of Fun
as an Alpha/Beta test we need to test everything on a broad scale

I'm having trouble downloading the second file on the list

AlliedShip_Back.zip ... I get sent to a web site called "Send This File" and prompted to sign up for an "account" ... is this what is supposed to happen ?

All the other files download fine.

THanks.

Nope - that's not what is supposed to happen. It's a link problem - I'll contact Spooky.

And thank you eMonticello !
