Game freezes

Post by kenoyer130 »

Winter of 45, just invaded France through spain. Game froze and now every time I load this game it freezes again. Also I had the virtual memory error that others have reports. I have never had that before. My virtual memory is 516 mb on my F drive and 50 mb on my C drive if that helps. Attached is the save game and a screenshot of my system performance at the time of the freeze. Note the extreme PF usage. I don't think I've seen that before.

I uploaded the file as a txt extension. Hopefully you can rename it to .sav and have it work. If not let me know and I will e-mail it directly.

How much ram does your test computer have? Mine has 512 mb.

Here is a link to a profile of my computer. Note the Belarc tool is a great little program for generating this.

I have also made sure my video drivers are up to date.

Oh another more minor issue which you might want to look at is the Japanese AI. It seems to spend all its supplies shuffling its troops around in china - moving from one location then back again - and hasn't actually attacked anything in about 5-6 turns. Also every turn it sends some planes into the chinese area near the coast where there are no troops and then "loses" the battle since it sent no ground troops to also hold the area.

Kenoyer,

Have you tried running the game in Low graphics (16 bit) mode by changing the setting in the game options, then exiting and restarting the game? I've found 512Mb systems really need to use the Low graphics setting for best performance.

Erik,
I have over 1 gig of memory and I have the same problem. Updated drivers on every piece of hardware I have. I'm pretty meticulous about keeping a clean system with everything up to date.

Paul got us your save. We were able to duplicate the crash and put in a fix for it that worked on our systems. We sent a test exe to Erik at Matrix today and asked him to send it on to you to confirm that it fixes the problem on your system. Please let us know if the fix works for you. Thanks sending the save, it was the key to fixing the problem. We are currently testing a patch that has this fix and hope to release it publicly next week.
