WitP Utility

Post by Bill Durrant »

Apologies if I am being stupid but:

I have downloaded the utility okay and it appears to open up okay but I am lost.

Does Witp need to be running first before you open up the utility?
Does it work on an already started game?
How do the two actually interact ie I have seen screenshots - is the info panel laid over WitP or is it using its own map?
When do you actually switch from WitP to the utility?
Is there an idiots step be step guide somewhere - I need it[:(]

Thanx in advance?

No WitP does not need to be running.

Yes, it works fine with games already underway.

The 2 programs are completely independent. Bodhi's tool merely makes use of the *.txt files generated by the combat replay.

That choice is entirely up to you. I typically let the combat replay do its' thing while I'm doing something else. Then when its' done, I Alt-Tab and open the utility. At this point, I click on the check for updated intel/ops report button (something like that name, don't have it open right now). I do this as I exclusively do pbem. I'm told an AI game automatically graps updated *.txt files. Then you click on reports. It'll take you to the map/report window.
A very sweet tool. [:D]

Bodhi had one for a previous version but I don't believe he's put one out yet for this version. If you're having problems, just drop me a line.

Just to add to the excellent replies from Scott & Ted (thanks guys [:)]), have a quick look at the ReadMe.txt, Manual.rtf and WITP Utility Reference Manual.doc files in the folder where you installed the Utility. The documentation's not great, but after a quick read you should be able to get the hang of it by playing around with the utility.
