World At War

Post by kalaloch214 »

Hi guys...WaW was first brought to my attention today by an ad at strategypage; one of my daily reading sites. Months back, I purchased "Axis & Allies", being poorly misinformed that it would be a PC variant of the old board game. Having come from the days of PanzerBlitz, Panzer Leader and the Original Squad Leader, I was looking forward to this, only to discover I'd have been better off using the money for car-parts. I had never; nor will ever again; touched an RTS. Lesson learned.

I've spent several hours today reading all of the available reviews and AAR's from WaW play, and am delighted to see that it's something I really look forward to owning. Those of you who have taken the time out to explain turn-by-turn gaming are to be commended. I was well warned that because I have a family and a semblance of a life, I should avoid either of the "Hearts of Iron"; and as I'm embarking on a wargame project of my own, WaW looks like the perfect fit to burn out some frustrations when my faction AI tells me to bite myself.

So, if this is allowable amongst my thanks; I have quite the collection of Original Squad Leader materials that need a good home (2+ complete counter sets, 2+ board sets, scenario cards, blah-blah). I don't have time any more to break out the boards, and my kids could care less about learning how to play given the advent of video games (if they want to go to war, there's a PS/2 version of "Risk" they use to knock heads). I'm not really looking to turn a profit on this, I live in the wetest part of the Pacific Northwest, and someone else might get enjoyment from it.
And if anyone would like to take the A&A off my hands (including the idiot Strategy Guide) for a few bucks to offset the $40.00 I'm gonna spend on WaW; email me and that thing will be in the mail tomorrow with my good riddance (I'm currently banging about with ATF and BCT-Commander).

Thanks for all of your insights and helpful tips. I look forward to returning to gain more from the game.
