Japanese resources

As a curiosity the game has the resources going from Russia to Germany, and the ones from U.S. to Japan. Why don't they have the NEI resources going to Japan? When the U.S. embargoed them it was one of the main reasons that Japan went to war when they did.

Yes it is, but historically the Japanese were getting the oil and rubber from the islands. In several other pacific war games this is represented.

It's built into the US gift. Since it's all WA resources, it didn't matter where we took them from and it was easier to just take them from one spot.

Speaking of resources, does a player have to do anything to get resources through trade or is it automatic? Specifically:
1. Does Germany automatically get resources from Sweden?
2. Does Japan automatically get them from WA?
3. Can Germany get resources from Turkey or Spain?
4. Can Germany get resources from Russia before Barbarossa?

If this resource "trade" is not done automatically, how does it work?

1. If the Germans put a transport in the Baltic they can get Swedish resources.
2. Yes
3. If the Germans can establish a transport/land link to these countrys it is possible. As longas the Allies aren't getting them first. Some else I haope can explain that part.
4. Yes.
It's Automatic based on having a link, either transports or connected owned provences.

Then the amount should be much higher, as they U.S. was also sending resources to Japan.

What has free trade got anything to do with it. The NEI start off owned by the allies so there would be no trade going to Japan.. now if it was neutral that would make more sense.

What has free trade got anything to do with it. The NEI start off owned by the allies so there would be no trade going to Japan.. now if it was neutral that would make more sense.

That was one of the ironies of the war...The Western Allies tried to play a delicate game of diplomacy with Japan that resulted in some unusual trade relationships. The US and British public opinion forced their governments to do something about the Japanese occupation of China (and the numerous atrocities). FDR had to do something to satisfy his constituents so he started an economic embargo against Japan that included most thingsexcept those items that had military applications...like oil and steel.[&:] The W. Allies wanted to pressure Japan...but not too much since Hitler was misbehaving in Europe and we didn't want to deal with a war in Asia at the same time. It was only after tensions mounted and the British home island was secure from Hitler that the W. Allies felt confident enough in the situation to escalate the embargo to include oil and steel. WiF reflects this reality with a slowly declining number of resources going to Japan starting in 1940.
