Has anyone actually won the game with the A-bomb?

Post by Uncle_Joe »

I'm just curious on this one. I havent even come close to doing so. Honestly, I havent really even tried to get my Heavies upgraded quite THAT far... They can kill most anything by GA 7 or 8 and getting to 10 just seems harder than taking out Germany and Japan 'conventionally'.

So, anyone see an A-bomb victory? Against the AI or another human?

I did regularly against the AI once I kept getting "stopped up" by 50 units in West Germany. Just bomb the daylights out of the factories with a dozen or 15 bombers and you win in no time. It is tough to get there...But if you have Germany "backed up" you can spend a lot per turn when you get to 8 and 9.

I try to win agaisn the AI know withut resorting to that. Most AI play for me is with no auto-victory and turn limit off.

I was wondering the same. My strategy to test this versus the Axis AI was not to build any new heavy bombers and invest in it every round to the max. It didnt take that long to create the bomb, so I should have started this later and invest in something more useful or possible extra troops in the first few rounds.

Bigger problem with this victory condition is having 50 times the production of the Axis, because it means you have to conquer quite a lot of territory before 1946. I got the axis under siege in Fortress Western Germany but still needed way too much Japanese territory to make this work. Suppose Germany keeps this, it means my production has to be 200 (Western Germany has 4 resources) so I think it only works effectively against Japan, because Honshu has only 1 resource.

I might give it another try vs the AI now I have learned so much from playing a few PBEM games.
