AXIS BATTLE REPORT:
SPRING 1940 GERMANY
For Germany, I pretty much stuck to my standard attack plan which while extensive is not that difficult to pull off.
I went into to the Low countries with 3 arty and 2 inf. THis will give you a .81 chance of a loss of one inf. No big deal there.
Next I stepped into Denmark....no report there.
Then followed the Tac Bomber and Heavy bomber into France. I use this to knock out the arty and reduce the risk to my tanks rolling in. With those two air units, you can usually knock out the arty and "hit" another unit reducing its evasion. I follow this air strike by rolling in with 5 tanks. That is all it really takes (at a 1.04% loss of a tank) and the 4 supply you save by not sending in the other two tanks is valuable! Also, it is difficult to get those tanks out because the rails are smashed. I hate repairing rail if I dont have to and France I usually only repair one line to yellow.
After Vichy France, I decided to go ahead for Yugoslavia. My typical attack is to send the Tac bomber from Italy into Yugo and try to hit an infantry. This is usually successful. This, then activates the Axis minors. I follow up with the Rumanian fighter into Yugo to hit another (or just "attack") another infantry. Next a swarm of about 6 milita. Losses were 2 milita dead.
At this point I stop to consider my grand plan. Up to this point is simply training excercises!! I though about what my goals are and how I wanted to proceed. Here is what my grand strategic goal for Germany laid out in my "megolomaniac" mind!
1) Feint into Africa - appear strong for an attack into Suez
2) Prepare for Sea Lion with strong Tac and Ftr air power (usable in Russia if Sea lion fails)
3) Build heavy into Infantry and Artillery - Fast to produce.
4) Plan on a Summer 41 invasion of Russia
5) Research infantry/arty attack and evasion
6) Cooperate with Japan in Russia. Wait for Fall 1941 to hit with Japan.
These of course are BROAD goals that are open to operational changes.
With this in mind I decided to start my feint in Africa. I steamed out of Italy to smash the Egyptian Royal Navy. Had pretty good success and drove them off. I then landed in strength east of Cairo. I dropped supply enough for one major operation and (in my mind) wrote them off. They are to be my distraction of forces in Africa. Rommel if you will.
After this, I did my best to fend off against the Western Med attack by throwing a sub and some air units in Sardinia.
At this point I was pretty much done except for GARRISONING ITALY! Gotta make sure it is a fortress....
After that...On to Japan!
