Noob signing in

Post by EagleMountainDK »

Hi guys, I've been a lurker for some time and when I read that the new version was released I decided to buy it.

I have installed the 4.02, patched to 4.03 and then the 4.05 version, started the tutorial campagin with standard settings. But I have trouble controlling the fighter, like the text describes in the info windows. It seems that even though I have disabled my throttle in the options screen 'A' and 'Z' does nothing. I have changed the left most "mfd" to show the thrust bar.... I then follow the route to waypoint 2, try to target the drone with 'T' with no luck. But 'Y' seems to work. And then the tutorial tells be to press "END" but again it seems like nothings happening. What are I'm doing wrong?

Then suddenly, with a target activated, my ship starts to accelerate like some kind of afterburner is activated (the screen shakes) and the only way I can stop it is by pressing "Shift-N".

I'm a just a total noob, doing something wrong or is there something wrong?

Cheers

When you say you're following the route to waypoint 2, do you mean that you pressed the "Nav 2" in the hud? If so then you have activated the autopilot to the navigation point 2 and you can't control your ship through manual controls. You can confirm this if there reads Auto Nav 2 in the HUD. Just press the "Auto Nav 2" (Shift-N disables the autopilot too) and you have manual controls back. You can give your ship orders even if it's in autopilot mode.

You really need to read the instructions more carefully, it's all there.

...oh and welcome to the game[:)]

Thats auto-nav. The screen is shaking because the afterburner IS on. Shift+N is auto nav on/off. Shift+Insert is time advance(?) for use during those long auto flights.

Thanx Papi, I follow the tutorial instructions to the letter, but something isn't right. I will try it again today.

Hey Cougar welcome aboard

I think papi meant the actual manual included with the game. Back in my flight training days I had printed out section 15, (keyboard ref), to use while learning...

remember, that book is more than just milo's opinion on how the game works...lottsa good stuff in there...

Keep on trying and you'll get it! Good luck!

I will, I'm not used to giving up. I normally play Falcon, LockOn and IL-2....

But I really have trouble controlling the thrust.

Ok I feel like a fool. I didn't see the Axis setup button and since I have a Cougar it was mapped to one of the other axes....[;)]

Ok I still have something I don't understand. And its "Thrust" and fighters. It seems that what ever I do in a fighter with my thrust nothing happens, besides the little slider in the lower left corner moves around. I've just tried the scenario number 9: Hounds and Hunters, where I control a capital ship and the throttle/thrust works fine.

What is the catch?

I have now read the manual and testede the game out, and like I wrote in my last posts, I can't control the fighters thrust.

I guess my next try is to uninstall the game, install the 4.x version (the first, can't remeber the number) and see if its the same.

Hi Cougar,

I still don't really understand what behavior you are seeing on your system. Let's take it one step at a time.

1. Create a custom mission with just a single fighter. If you'd like, you can use this one:

Code: Select all

MISSION

 name: "Throttle Test"
 type: "Patrol"
 system: "Janus"
 region: "Ilon"

 objective: "Unspecified"
 sitrep: "Unknown"
 start: "33:00:00"

 degrees: true

 element: {
    name: "Alpha"
    design: "Stormhawk"
    mission: "Misc"

    count: 1
    iff: 1
    player: 1

    region: "Ilon"
    loc: (0, 0, 0)

    loadout:   { ship: -1, name: "ACM Medium Range" }
 }

2. Start the mission.

3. Set your throttle to maximum (press Shift+A).

4. Do you hear any engine activity?

5. Does the velocity indicator to the left of the HUD reticule start to increase from 0?

6. Engage the afterburner (press TAB).

7. Do you hear any engine activity?

8. Does the screen shake?

9. Switch to Orbit Cam (press F3).

10. Do you see a motion trail (a blue line trailing behind your ship)?

Hi Milo, any news? Could you use the info? Its a little sad I have bought a game I can't play.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to the support forum instead?

Sorry Cougar, I have no idea. I've never heard of that behavior happening before.

Here are some additional things to try:

1. Can you move using thrusters? (Home/End for forward and back, PageUp/PageDn for up and down, </> for left and right)

2. Can you move when using the mouse? (Press ~ to engage the mouse steering, then move the scroll wheel up and down to work the throttle)

3. What flight model are you using? Have you tried any of the others?

4. Does it matter what kind of ship you are commanding?

5. Does physically disconnecting your joystick help?

Hi milo, it sure looks strange, this is the only game giving me problems.....

1. Yes it moves fine
2. Since I'm Danish I use Danish keyboard configuration so I can't find the ¨ ingame. But I will try to change to english keyboard and post results later.
3. I have tried both of them no difference.
4. Nope.
5. I will try that also.

So I will try the following:

A. English keyboard
B. Remove joystick
C. Try another keyboard, its a cordless Logitech and it could make some "noise".
D. Change to English regional settings, i.e. the , and . is reversed.

Yeeeeeeeessssss I found the problem. It was the ¤%¤#%&# logitech keyboard and its ¤!%&¤/# driver. I uninstalled iTouch version 2.22, plugged in my old IBM PS2 keyboard but kept the Logitech mouse. And now its works as it should! So no more Logitech cordless keyboards for me!

Mayby you should tell them Milo.... [;)]

Cougar,

I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and I had the exact same problem. What was happening is when the game first started it was registering that I had increased my ECM levels to max and that was draining all my power, making mvement impossible, regardless of thrust level.

When I toggled it to off (I think it is key F3 but you would need to check that) it worked fine forever after, at least until a fresh install, when you would have to repeat the process.

Hope that helps,

Ken
