A new War

Post by mogami »

Hi, Erik Rutins will be running the Allies I will be in control of Japan. I won't rehash how or why I play. Here is Dec 7 1941 edited to save space. As the war makes progress I will answer "why" questions. Because I expect to start several more games using this plan there might be a delay before I respond.
(OK I didn't edit turn 1)

Glad to see a new AAR by you Mogami, eagerly waiting. [:)]

One question, you're sending unescorted Sallies to Alor Star and Khota Baru. I presume this is just a turn 1 peculiarity as Allies are grounded, even so isn't it a bit unrealistic (not the way you play)?

Hi, No It's alright to send unescorted bombers.......as long the the enemy does not deploy fighters. The Japanese fighters were all off flying CAP over TF.
Remember young Padawan the enemy will do things in reaction and to cause reaction.
If they see unescorted bombers they deploy fighters. The fighters have to come from some where and off another mission.
In this stage my main concern is for my TF. Enemy bombers without escorts may not fly and if they do Japanese CAP might be better able to drive off unescorted groups.
Of course I have to walk a tight rope because if in fact the enemy does assign fighters to prevent my bombing and catch them unescorted they will suffer. So I have to either assign escorts (currenlty flying other mission) Change target, or ground my bombers.
Now the ideal result would be enemy bombers fly unescorted against my TF and are shot down And the enemy fighters waste their time or encounter Japanese fighter escorts.

Hi Japan has decided to risk the fortunes of war rather then submit tamely to the attempts of the West Alliances to encircle and hem her in. These acts meant to starve her and deprive her of the peacefull right of access to the material all countries require in this new age of industry will be met by force. The Fate of the Japanese Empire now rests on the capable shoulders of her army and navy.

Erik:"Chaos is upon us as peacetime commands wake up and struggle to deal with the sudden onslaught of the Japanese forces."

Hi, I stood down 2xA6M2 Daitai (Hiryu and Soryu) Removed the remaining A6M2 from airfield attack and placed on escort or CAP over TF.
Then I assigned Val to airfield attacks (4xDaitai) and Kate to Airfield (2xDaitai) The rest attacked the port Val (2xDaitai) Kate (4xDaitai)

On turn 2 the 2 A6M2 Daitai took over the CAP and the rest went to escort with all the bombers set to Naval strike just in case (I never hang around PH)

Why don't you position the KB to attack Lahaina with some Vals on the first turn? (At the same time as PH of course) There are two ships there: AK Arctic (4500) and SS Gudgeon. Or does this violate your Iron Man rules?
Is Sharkosaurus rex the biggest fish in the sea?
Why don't you come in for a swim?

I'm intrigued by the amount of landings on Mindanao, so far in my games I have not worried too much about this area, tending to almost bypass and return later to take out what is left at davao and Cagayan. Gien you know so much about this game care to sahre your reasons behind all this activity?

Hi, I stood down 2xA6M2 Daitai (Hiryu and Soryu) Removed the remaining A6M2 from airfield attack and placed on escort or CAP over TF.
Then I assigned Val to airfield attacks (4xDaitai) and Kate to Airfield (2xDaitai) The rest attacked the port Val (2xDaitai) Kate (4xDaitai)

On turn 2 the 2 A6M2 Daitai took over the CAP and the rest went to escort with all the bombers set to Naval strike just in case (I never hang around PH)

You never follow up the first day of attacks with a second or third? Are there any conditions where you might? I usual have an if then...if my Kates don't use torpedos, or if I fail to sink at least X amount of battleships, then I will follow up with a second day, wash rinse repeat. What do you base your strategy's regarding Pearl on?

I'd love to hear too - I see a strategy forming and one that I don't much like (as Allies). Don't want to give Russ any ideas he hasn't already had though! I guess we'll have to wait and see, how he exploits and what he deploys from his position on Mindanao should tip his hand pretty well. [8D]

This is VERY interesting.

Not just Mindanao, though that is fascinating. (I'll be curious to see what Mogami does about troops retreating into the countryside there.)

No, what really interests me is Malaya. I was about to ask Mogami whether he planned to bomb Singapore, when I realized: I don't see any landings at all in Malaya. All-out in the PI first?

My quess on Malaya is he is going to march into Malaya. He has alreday said that wasn't going to go north of Tavoy untill the fall of Singapore.
