Blank scenes?

Post by MikeB »

PBEM.
Loading the game file from my Vancouver colleague...I tend to find the map bare of units.
Not only is the map bear, but when one goes to F3 -<hat icon>
not yourself and not anybody else has troops.
All troop / forces are at ZERO.

Any suggestions?
We tried changing the internet email account once at the Vancouver site.

Is it possible that you have the option to show only the map and no units turned on? Play around with those options on the top taskbar. One of the options shows supply, one factories I belive, one military forces, and one just shows a bare map.

Another thing to check is that you are both using the same versions. Sometime mismatched versions show up as units missing from the map.

Hey Mike, you work with Robin T. ?

but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

ok, I went to the GGs World at War web site....
and YES, there is a download patch v1.016 sitting there.

Now I need to check/verify what my PBEM partner was running to ensure
that was ALL the problem.

simple things...but a patch on a virtually NEW game?
I am uncertain whether to be happy or dis-illusioned.

Honestly, what PC game have you played in the last 5 years that didnt need a patch in the early going? At least we are lucky that Matrix is on the ball and releasing them in a timely manner. I truly hate companies that wait and wait to release patches and by the time they get them out, most people have already lost interest in the game...

Also keep in mind that large number of things being 'patched' in this game are enhancements, balancing tweaks, or especially AI tweaks. They are looking at the feedback on the forums and responding appropriately. I have no problems with that! [;)]

Exactly Joe, I had a game called the temple of elemental evil, was waiting for it forever. It came out had a few bugs and atari took quite awhile to get the first patch out. They indicated a second patch was coming and it took almost a year. The third patch they wouldn't even pay for and the developers ended up doing it themselves and then got roadblocked when atari wouldn't let it out.

Matrix at least continues to do patches in a reasonable time frame (and yes a couple of months is a very reasonable time frame)

there is usually a period of time when the game is finished (gone gold) and when the game is actually sold. during this time is when the first patch is worked on primarily.

most developers usually have long lists of small insignificant bugs to work on and they simply can't get to them before the producers insist on a release. can you imagine if a developer waited until the game was 100% perfect? most game would be delayed weeks to months just to fix minot details that 95% of the players would never even be aware of.

I agree with the others, early and continued patches is a sign of a good, 'player-centric' group of developers/producers.
