Need Geekster advice ref AI..

Post by m10bob »

Hi guys.....My newest question is this: We see a lot of great mods out here, and I keep reading that the AI is broken, does weird stuff, etc.
I'm great at history but my generation never even had computers at college level,(let alone 1st grade like some of you guys).[:D]
To me,an AI should
1.Attempt to capture high points objectives, contiguous(if possible) with current holdings.
2.Respond to enemy(human) movement/transgressions,and
3.Keep friendly units supplied while engaged in 1 and 2 above.
.................................................................................................................................
Without details,to me,this is what a wargaming AI should be programmed to do.
My question is:are there ANY WITP mods/versions in existence RIGHT NOW which will allow me to keep this game on my hard-drive,or does it get a fate I would only reserve for crap?
I am a VERY longtime supporter/customer of Matrix, but I need to know the truth,(without semantics) at this time, please. [&:]
If it helps your answer in any way,I currently have version 1.5 and have CHS,as I prefer it's more prolific/researched OOB and map........
Humbly and respectfully.Bob

Bob

Many people are having good results playing against the AI with V1.5 and CHS. I am having some problems with one of my computers (the new, fast one) and have no explanation for that.

The Japanese AI will usually run a reasonably historical game and can be challenging if you also play historically. It just isn't robust enough to deal with too many unusual acitivities.

Give it a try - if the AI attacks aggressively during the first few months of the war - you've got a good game.

The problem is that there is AI and there is what we have.
This is not AI, it is a series of files that say 'At this date in this theater either take or hold this base'.
'Keep your ships here till January '43.'
'After January '43 move half of your carriers to support an invasion of Kwajalein.'
'If this base falls transfer a portion of your reserve to take it back.'

This system is so open to abuse that i did not realize i was abusing it until I had sunk half the allied navy.
I took Noumea early in a GC as Japan and the Allies were like moths to a flame but they did not bother organizing... just waves of units getting slaughtered.

I know some people enjoy playing against the AI but it is not, to me, worth playing against.
As it is at the moment Joe's subs are slaughtering me but my cruisers are harvesting his transports as they flee the Phillipines screaming like girls.

You just will not get this sphincter feeling playing against the AI.

Maybe you should back up a step or two.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.
