AI Won't Land

Post by dhdd00 »

Just bought this game after playing with the demo for awhile and I'm having 3 issues with fighter AI.

1) It will not always engage target as I command it to until they have passed already, when I'm captain of the Carrier. It didn't do this in the demo.

2) Some fighters decide to wonder off by themselves and do nothing at distance of 999. When I command them to return to base, they're still going backwards and keep flying away into infiniti.

3) When landing, they just sit there waiting to land but never land so I have 30 fighters doing nothing but waiting.

I patched it to 4.5 already but these stupid fighter AI issues are still the same. Any help on getting these fighters to actually do what they are supposed to do, ie. land?

Thanks

I had the same thing last night. One, badly damaged thunderbold refused to land, even after much prodding, and instead sailed slowly out of view backwards! Meanwhile all other fighters in the queue for the landingbay waited around for ages trying to land in the bay reserved for the 'lost soul'. Very frustrating.

The not engaging target bug is an old one, somehow the fighters all engage one fighter and after that one is down engage another. If that fighter is traveling fast (as attacks on capitalship are wont to do) the fighters chase after it for ages often catching it too late to stop it. Staggered fighter screens is a solution but not a good one.

The landing issues are frustrating. I have found one way that will usually, tho not always, resolve this problem. The wandering ships are dead. The stock fighters do not have repair capability so if they get damage to engines or nav computer, or some other critical system, they drift off into a cold lonely death. For the remaining fighters, waiting on that guy will mean you never recover your fighters.
If it is the end of the mission, just end the mission, your fighters will be recovered "behind the scenes". If the mission isn't over, SLOWLY back your carrier (no more than 50) towards the waiting fighters. This will reset the approach points and force the fighters to reposition. By doing this, it tends to bump those out of range to the bottom of the landing list.

Hope this helps.
