SPWAW-Colors have gone haywire

Post by Skirmshander »

I have a reoccuring problem with Steel Panthers. After an undetermined amount of time, the graphics go all haywire on me, ie. i have a plethora of rainbow colors, instead of the staid browns and greys and greens.

This has happened in the past, but had seemed to stop for awhile (i haven't been playing SPWAW lately)

I'm using a Geforce 5700 (with the latest drivers), on Xp SP2 with directx 9C. I changed the refresh rate and the resolution and it still happens

I'm wondering if i should just go back to the old drivers ...

This has been a recurring problem with more advanced versions of SPWAW bumping heads with more advanced display drivers.Matrix has no intention of changing their Windows compliance on the game itself because it is a free offering and it was they who made it Windows-compliant in the 1st place,(thank goodness).
Others have suggested the color problem is linked to spam-blockers and other "security " programs running in the background. It's possible, but most of us have had to learn to "live with it".
(Some die-hards have even gone as far as to have older "junk" CPU's for nothing but playing SPWAW!)..[:D]

thanks for the reply. i have had it happen with some drivgers but not others, from what i can tell. I use SPWAW for 2 months straight and then not touch it for several months, so its hard to say, you know??

at least i know i'm not going crazy! [;)]

I have the same problem with the General's Edition which was not free but cost $92.00.

Why isn't Matrix going to fix this for a $92.00 game?

Hello ArmyPhil..
Wish I could give you a "positive" answer to this question, but I doubt it will ever happen, and it is not Matrix' fault.
The game itself is about 10 years old, and the "bones" of the program were designed for the 'puter technology back then.
Any changes done to the game,(i.e.: making it run in Windows at all), was a fairly major project, and even it was done when older drivers were around,(maybe 5 years ago(?).
I've personally tried every suggestion read on these forums, and none have worked as well (I suppose) as having a 2nd "junker" 'puter to use for this finest of all computer wargames.........[:(]

Since I wrote i haven,t had this problem. I don't know if it was the scenario I was playing or i installed or uninstalled something. Try turning off spyware. This has helped with other games and different problems.
