Malta attack

Post by randell765 »

Unsure if it is my computer or waht, but I am having major problems attacking Malta(off of Italy).Every time I attack it 2nd turn(unless someone knows how to attack it succesfully first turn(please let me know) I bring 2 bombers,1tac fighter and 1 fighter, and each time I fail to kill the artillary.

How the hell do you take it out. Every time I get 1 plane damaged by his aa gun. Should I bring my ships also? That is the only scenario I havn't done yet, but if that makes no difference then I don't know what to do to take Malta on turn 2 without losses. Any help please

Are you reloading the same save over and over again?

Because it is Rough And a Fortress it'll have big bonuses on defense.
Basically sending some ships in to also get beaten up is the way to go. You could also land a Paratrooper on them and hope the Defensive Opp Fire from the artillery doesn't kill ALL your transports :P
Malta and Gibralter are rough, but Scotland isn't??? Yes I've complained about this before... Being Forts is good enough! Get rid of the rough please!

hmmm,
Didn't think of a paratrooper, need to get Malta out of the way to try out an African campaign.

If you want the satisfaction of taking Malta, play against the AI. It is a fortress & rough terrain, but honestly, it did not seem to be as advantageous as taking it in other strategic games. It becomes unteanable after the Axis takes Gibralter & The Suez, and a human playey might be stubborn enough to hang on to it, because he has nowhere to go. The AI doesn't. (Unless the have tweeked it in the patch).

I think that is another example of how the game uses KISS (keep it simple, stupid), to make things work. Other games (like Third Reich, which I like), have a whole section of special rules about Malta. In WaW, the Allies can pretty much deny it to the Axis as long as they can get to it.

I personally find Malta to be both unimportant and wasteful. Its strategic importance I feel is far overshadowed by Cairo, Gibraltar, and even Sardina (but I'm a Sardina nut). Once I feel even slightly comfortable with my postion in the Med I relocate the Artillery and Flak to places where it is more needed.

I've found malta pointless and a waste of resources to take as axis also. the only time malta ever seems to have any effect is when the allies put a plane or two there and you're trying for the middle east or africa. other than that malta can be ignored IMO.

Yes, pointless, as you've obviously been playing against tame Allied opponents [:D]

Aggresive Allied dude will put some aircraft there, maybe even destroyers and create historical situation to scare you cold. Though, of course, this can be dealt with too.

And I think it should not be both rough and fortified. This combination makes an area practically unbeatable, and can be used to create totally unhistoric situations. In my mod Malta and Gib are not rough (they remain fortified though).

Oleg, I've taken a decent look at it and I still lean towards Sardina over Malta. I'd like to think I've gotten a tad better since our last match, and I'm still trying to juggle around my begging placement. In one of my current PBEMs I've managed to take Torbuk, Tripoli, Sardina, and Ethopia all on turn one of the Western Allies without a single loss. However, I'm still debating what to do with the forces at Malta. I've been playing with the idea of stealing the Artillery and throwing it to Sardina along with a Fighter from UK, leaving Malta with a Flak and Milita.

I've been plotting about how to beat your 70 PP win :). Pop on over to the AAR section if you get a chance and tell me what you think. If you like I can give you uncensored screenshots.

I am working on that too [:D] But I have trouble finding Axis opponents to do my strategy on me.

My opponents prefer either to have me do the Axis 70PP on them, or if they are Axis play the usual, kinda boring, and (under 1.016) unrealistically easy "double team on Russia" strategy. Those games drag on with Russia reduced to couple provinces on Urals... (though I guess could be finished quick on AV)

Now that the UK can actually get in the fight by liberating taken Russian province I think the Russian squeze can be at least diverted a little. If Finland unfreezes and takes Karelia the UK can ship in some troops to hold a province or two, letting Russia shuffle around a few extra units.

In the end the only way to try and save Russia from the squeeze in my opinon is complete domination of the Med, allowing for invasion of the soft underbelly.
