where is the russian IL2?

Post by aletoledo »

doesn't it seem strange that nobody ever creates tac air as russia?

the il-2 was supposed to be a flying tank, with 15% of its weight in armor! I can't recall, but I think it was the most produced aircraft in WW2 by anyone. (correct me if I'm wrong)

yet in W@W, russia would be stupid to waste so much on trying to upgrade it to the point of devoting production to it.

Shouldn't russia get some incentive to produce tac air? either reduce its build time, increase its armor or evasion perhaps?

The problem lies in German airpower at the start of Barbosa. For Russia to attempt to build a large airforce is suicide. Its much safer to stick with Flak and a heavy land force. By the time the tide starts to turn for Germany and Russia gains the upper-hand it makes more sense to just crank out tanks then attempt to upgrade air, which the Western Allies should be fairly high in themselfs already.

This is one of the bugbears I have, the specialisation. The usual law of unforseen circumstances where added features reduce variability in game design.

The patch did help with the tech problem, but tech is still TOO strong. If tech didnt make such a HUGE difference in combat, then copmbined arms would be a lot more important.

I've started to diversify a lot as axis. I'm starting to build a little of just about everything now. I think as the game ages a bit more we'll see better use of counters.

still the russian tac air needs a tech boost to encourage russia to diversify more. tanks, artillery and some AA is all russia is about.

perhaps increasing the build time of russian armor would help make them diversify more.

I think its a better idea to decrease the speed of production on Tactical Bombers then increase Tank build time. Maybe if the Russians started with 2 or 3 points researched already...

Oleg has addressed this problem in his mod by giving Russian tac air a point of armor.
