Battle of Midway
From Samuel Elliot Morrison Speaking of airmen who died at the Battle of Midway, he writes, "Think of them, reader, every Fourth of June. They and their comrades who survived changed the whole course of the Pacific War."

They sure did, though it will be three more years before my blog gets to them.

The airmen at Midway have always amazed me for their courage, can anyone here even think of jumping in a TBD, taking off the Yorktown, and winging your way into what they went into. [&o][&o]
I was lucky enough to meet a gunner of an SBD that was in the battle of midway once, he flew of the Enterprise. Real shame they scrapped the Big E... I don't think any ships that were in the battle are still around, maybe one of the planes got saved in a museum.

By the way does anyone know is Ens. Gay is still alive?
