Into the deep end , ArticFire vs graycompany(scen15)
Radio's across Japan relay the terrible news:
....The entire command staff of the Japanese Naval force including it's famed leader where tragicly killed in a photo shoot involving a mine layer , typhoon , and soon to be replaced "quick" release lever on the mine rack.....
....ArcticFire , the 2nd cousin 3 times removed of the emperor was temperoraly put in charge to carry out the military plans , soki is belived responsible for this appointment.....
....When asked what he thought of the planned naval actions he was noted as saying "You mean ships do more then hold people who are fishing ? ". This was assumed a joke however he seemed to say it with a rather eery sincerity....
....After a full night of building sand castles on the beach with many watching he was overheard of speaking some jibberish about "killer waves" as he and his officers heading back to the command post....
This will be my first big game. I expect to totally get trounced and I wouldn't be to terribly shocked if I run more ships into rocks then I use effectivly. However I'm a fan of jumping in the deep end , since once you sink to the bottme there is only one direction to go. We are playing with fairly standard settings I belive , house rule of 5 MW ships per sub hunting TF , and non-historical first turn.
The opening shot of the war at peral harbor will be standard I'm certain , I'll comment on the rest of the war effort after the fact.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
well, I doubt the trouncing part, but I will try to give you a good game. I like to suprise my oppoent early in the game. Not sure what the suprise will be.
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Ah the war begins. Well for my first attempt at handling the Japs first turn I don't think I did to awfull. I realize now I forgot a couple things but thats ok , I got all the major things done I thought needed doing.
As noted below PH did not go over as shinningly as I would have liked. Maby more of BB's will sink then at first glance would seem but I kinda doubt it.
....When ArcticFire was recently interviewed on his production plans he was quoted as saying "Huh ? "....
I'm thinking it will take me awhile to wrap my head around the whole production thing.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Well, we may have some corrupted file because in the Playback, I didnt see wake fall and the attack was at 0 to1 which in the combat report said it was 4 to 1. On my screen, which has odd images on it, sorta a overlay of the load screen. This isnt visable in my other PBEM game. Its hard for me to see the buttons to push. I will try an reload the game an see what happens. Your first turn was good......... no comment at PH as there are spies everywhere. Also i could make a joke about japanese and taking a pictures (recon) but I wont........... I still could....
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
I went and watched the combat replay and your right , on the combat replay wake does not fall , yet sure enough as you can see from the report above it did. When I played out my turn Wake was in Jap hands.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Ah while day one's results where ok , today has shown a lot more promis. The following bases where captured today:
Aparri
Vigan
Guam
Cagayan
Paving the way for my invasion in the PI. Also Peral Harbor was hit for a second time with a LOT better results. The wounds inflicted yesterday had salt poured on them and more where inflicted. At least 5 BB's where reported as heavily damaged with 2 confirmed eating torpedo's. Magazin explosions and fire rage everywhere in the port.
In other news around peral harbor many small groups of ships have been spotted flee'ing the sceen of destruction.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
well so far, nothing has went very well. all air attacks are missing (not to suprised by this) and my sub captains are quite. Pearl harbour is a wreck, and we are starting a new Monument to the Oklahoma.
Other then that things are great [8|]. landing and bombardments have gone very well for Artic. bombardments have been very effective.
my Pt boats disrupted one landing for a day in the PI, but other then that, allied response has been slow.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Day 3 of the campaign has seen the japanese commanders realization of just how many forces he left in their respective ports in his inital battleplan. While this means a slower assault on allied postions overall since they have to load up I belive I have done enough damage that I shouldn't lose to much momentom.
In other news Khota Bharu was captured today. The american BB Oklahoma was confirmed sunk by intellegence sources in peral harbor. Hopefully it will not be the only victom to succumb. My land based CAP for my fleets in the south china sea seem to be very effective , my little Oscars are racking up kills.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
well the 3rd day finds bad weather and bad bombing the real problems of the day. as the mass run for your life from the PI, the poor AVD childs had stopped to cap of fuel, but a bunch of kates gave her the kiss of death. the only high point of the day is when we sank a I boat not far from batavia in shallow waters. His bombing of clarks field keep my Big B-17 grounded. and the best chance for bombing was mostly reports from my piliots of "unable to locate target". In the whole ocean there is one cloud, and his ships are under it in a rain squall.
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Weather is causing some issues with planned air ops but overall another good day for japan. Meanwhile I'm starting to get a grip of the overall situation and while I still am almost totally lost on production (even after reading up on it heh) the rest of the war effort seems to be starting to take shape.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Well his mini carrier's in and around the PI keeps having a field day. Little you can do here but run in every direction. A pby has spotted the main jap carrier force 480 miles northeast of Hawaii. We are as prepared as we can be for a possiable 3rd attack in 5 days on pearl. The lack of jap sub activity has me concerned, ive only seen a few,, wonder where they are hiding? two good ground combats in china have helped causing over 2000 enemy casualties. about the only good news to report.
He is moving quickly in PI, and also heading towards singapore with alarming speed. Hong kong is putting up a great defence. this turn may prove interesting around pearl, im a try a new tactic and see what happens. I know where his carriers are, he dosent know where mine are[8|]

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Today saw some interesting happening. Firstly the crazy americans attacked the PH carrier fleet at night. One DD was lightly damaged in the attack , as an asnwer for waking the crew up they sunk one of the PT boats. Also during the night one of our subs engaged some ships heading twords the US mainland , sadly the sub missed.
Over in the southern china sea 2 oil tankers and a sub tender where put to rest by a valiant charge from a small CL/DD fleet. There are an annoying large number of allied subs all over this region.
Bad weather has hampered our efforts elsewhere. There was an allied BB spotted north of borneo yesterday however it's hiding now. Hong Kong is proving to be a nightmare. It apears that I send the wrong infantry divison to lead the attack since it was the one that was left behind to garrison that was prepared for the attack [8|]
After the PT boat assault the PH carrier group launched another attack in two waves. This one pointed squarly at the airfield with satifactory results. An odd sighting of some ships heading SE from the PI.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Well, was not a bad turn for me, gave most of the air crews a much needed rest. My pt boats almost did some damage, I have 3 groups looking for that task force, Might get lucky again if he stays, and Im guessing he will launch one more raid on the harbor, but almost all the ships are gone, few that were to damaged to move are left. China continues to go well.
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Today was arguably the worst day for us since the war started. However while things are not going our way in china at all, on the water we are dominating. NE of PH our valient sub whom was trying to bring food and medicin to the needy hawians was maliciously gunned down.
We begin the search for the american carriers west of PH.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Ive yet to see the turn yet but it sounds good. On a sad note, we have a report that the AK ethel edwards was sunk near the phillippines. We have cabled Ethel in bismark, Nd and asked if she would like to sponser another ship which we will name ethel edward II. we have yet to hear from ethel.
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
(It will be a couple days for the next turn as Gray has to go on a day trip)
Today was a brutal day for allied naval shipping forces. This is part of the campaign to send a clear message as to what happens when you refuse to trade with Japan. One of our CA's finally fails to dodge some allied airpower , however she should be fine. I belive thow it's hard to confirm that we are doing our part to inflict sub losses on the allies as well. There are a disturbing number of ships in the seas between PH and the US mainland. My subs are having a rough time of stopping their passage.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Well not a bad turn, I think we may have got 1 sub maybe two. And a torpedo finally hit. His carriers keep steaming around pearl. One of these times my Pt's are going to find him and die in flamming balsa wood, but just maybe put a fish in to a CV. he seems to have few troops on On PI, and 5 div in china. This could prove interesting as I have counter attacked in PI. I also sent some troops on a flanking attack in china.
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Things could be better , however I can take comfort in the video sent back to the HQ of all the allied ships exploding with sailors jumping overboard. The KB found some lunch today. At least 4 confirmed sinkings of allied ships with possibly as many as 7 or 8. The allied scum push off our vacationers on one of the beaches in the PI , they returned to one of our newly aquired bases there.

RE: Into the deep end , ArticFire vs grey(scen15)
Well his carriers continue to chase fleeing DM's and cl's going back to the coast. Little i can do about it, but not a single ship sunk back there. My air crews in singapore are getting experience and starting to get hits now. he has taken the first chinese city but im ready at the 2nd one. In the phillipines i have pushed him back to the beaches. and while his carriers are busy playing patty cake with damaged ships, im busy else where.[;)] heck of a 1st week of the war.
I thought this place was a empire, now im the last, I can't be sure...
