Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

Hi folks, I'm just starting to get into this game and I was wondering what optional settings people tend to use? What about turn length? Seems to make quite a difference in control from 10 minutes to 30. Do people tend to use the same length for play v the AI and PBEM?

Thanks, Chris

Realistic settings are my favorite. You need the order limits to truly get the flavor of Nato vs WP (turning them off give WP an advantage). Weather is optional, but if its on it it can sometimes change the entire game course (bad weather with 1 square visual radius is a killer), usually benefitting the WP (long range combat sucks for WP).
I like the 30 minute turns. You can get off 3 rounds of artillery and your units will move a few squaures. The shorter times just mean you spend turns where nothing moves, and that you are waiting a turn for that last arty shot to be fired before ordering another 3 targets. when you remember that WP sometimes have 15 minute order delays just to begin an order, the shorter times seem to make the game drag on IMHO.
Seeing enemy unit details is debatable. There is definitely an advantage to seeing an enemy unit (you get their movement status, ammo supply, morale, etc.), yet without it you are just blowing up faceless units.

It depends how experienced a gamer you are and how quickly you pick up the rules of this game. To start with make everything revealed and use a 30 minute game turn. Forget about the limited staff rule. Just play it out and get a feel for the flow of it.

Then when you are ready for a more of a challenge start making it more restrictive. The character of the game changes a lot and it gets quite tense.

Cheers, Rob.
