The Silent Majority

Post by Raverdave »

You know what? I consider myself one of the silent majority, I play this game day in and day out sometimes doing four turns and other times doing less or more depending on how my PBEM buddies are travelling. I enjoy playing this game and really get a kick out of it, even after all this time. And yes even after all that time that I spent as a beta tester.
If there are issues with the game play they are not big enough to upset my enjoyment or even stop me playing. Heck if you really look hard enough you can even find faults in games such as Risk or even Cludo.

The point that I am trying to make is this, I enjoy playing the game as it is and I suspect that the greater silent majority of those who post and lurk here do so as well. Sure if changes are introduced to the game play, hey thats fine with me also. But after all is said and done.......I REALLY STILL ENJOY PLAYING THIS GAME

While I totally agree with you, you do know that you run the risk of a HUGE board war just by posting this, right?[8D]

I am just really tired of continually seeing negative postings.....and just am simply expressing MY feelings about the game.

Like I said, we're totally on the same wavelength: it's a GAME, for God's sake, play or don't play, but stop ruining it for those of us who play.

Absolutelly correct!

The first thing I do when I start my PC or come home from work is go to the mail inbox and get angry if there is no new turn there, and that is my bigest complaint! Can we request that in the next version we get a mandatory allways there PBEM turn file in the inbox? [:D]

All this recent complaining and whining cost me too much time trying to read through, but I also learned a new thing , and that is what the block/ignore button is used for. [:(]

WitP was and is the _BIGGEST_, _MOST_DETAILED_ and _BEST_ wargame ever...

Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

For me the WitP was and is the _BIGGEST_, _MOST_DETAILED_ and _BEST_ wargame that ever existed (even in 1.00 status the WitP was 100% playable and enjoyable)!

Thank you Matrix/2By3 for giving us WitP! [&o][&o][&o]

In future the WitP status (at least for me) can only be taken (possibly) by upcoming Matrix/2By3 project "War in Russia" (WiR)... can't wait for that one... [;)]

BTW, all this said does not mean that there are not possible issues/problems in WitP that we all (as special community because there almost never was forum as this one) can't discuss, fix remaining bugs and try to improve the game further...

But after all is said and done.......I REALLY STILL ENJOY PLAYING THIS GAME

I enjoy it too, Dave. Wouldn't be moved to post things if I didn't. I've learned to play past many of the strange and wonderous "results" that the code produces with the help of "House Rules" and punching the wall. But I still go ballistic when I notice that their are way to many B-17's, or that Tony's arrive 6 months early, or a number of other little aggrivations. Why? Because they aren't "coding mistakes" or "unplanned
results" of something else. They are purely POOR RESEARCH. The stuff is there waiting to be looked up, and the designers didn't bother. That I have a rough time with..., and it does affect my enjoyment of the game. I know, I can change it. But it just shouldn't have been there in the first place. You can change it is a cop out, and I expected better from these guys.

So I'll enjoy playing it..., but just not as much as the rest of you. Wish I could....

gotta chime in here too. I bought it when it first came out. What is that, 11 months ago?

I pick up about 4 games a year of all sorts. WitP is the only one I can think of ever that I still come back to.

All other games seem to be more of a diversion. This one is an addiction. Despite the cruddy interface, it is the smartest, most compelling and interesting game I've ever played. And I don't even play any PBEMs (yet)!

I know that I've been far more vocal than many on this board (and far less than some), defending 2by3 on occasion and complaining about what I think might be repairable mistakes. The bottom line is that WITP is my favorite computer game ever, and as such is the game I keep playing (and will continue to keep playing - board games just don't cut it anymore).

While it ain't perfect, WITP is still the best computer game covering this subject we have ever experienced - and are likely to experience in the forseeable future. It is quite fun, and highly addictive - and this is from someone who has played only agaisnt the AI on historical settings (never liked cheating AIs - I just have my own ways of handicapping myself).

I used to buy anywhere from five to twenty games a year. Since WITP came out, I have purchased one other game, and that one has been inactive for months.

As part of the silent majority, I agree with Raverdave, it's the greatest game I have ever played. Thank you Matrix.

Hi, Concerning research. You say the KI-61 enters 6 months too early. It enters prodution in 8/42 however no group equipped with it arrives for another 18 months.
So only groups changed by player will be on map. With a starting production of 74 aircraft per month the Japanese player could have 2 groups equipped by the end of 9/42
However they will need time to repair. So say 10/42 for the earliest combat.
The Tony was in combat by spring of 1943. However the first Tony to engage enemy aircraft was in April 1942. A Tony engaged one of the Doolittle B-25's (no damage)
Where is this 6 month too early coming from? It appears to me to be pretty much historical arrival.

Please create a new thread for the Tony discussion. We're also discussing this internally and I'll let you know if we come to a conclusion.

WitP is one of the few games that has a permanent spot on my hardrive. Other games come and go as Im in the mood but WitP stays because I know its one game that will keep me coming back again and again. Its a classic - faults and all, there's nothing quite like it and not likely to be for a long time.

And cheers to the support and dev staff .... the dedication to polish and enhance the game long after most companies would have moved on is worth the price right there.
