The perfect AAR

Post by timtom »

Hi guys,

Some of you have kindly commended my AAR's on this forum (not as glowingly as Veer's superb AAR, though [:(]), however I'd like to hear from the horse's mouth what you enjoy about AAR's in general, so that I may improve in the future.

Do you like maps, charts, illustrations and other graphics? Statistics? Dramatisation of in-game events? Discussions of tactical and strategic dispositions and planning? Would you like weekly or monthly assesments of the game so far and/or enemy dispositions? Would you like the full game AAR file, an edited version (my method so far), a commented one, or none at all?

Tom

Where's the Any key?

Maps and illustrations are always a plus, and far preferable to cut-and-pastes of the combat report file, which get really tedious to scroll through. However, your method of using an edited combat report, perhaps with a few comments here and there, seems to work well.

I am always a fan of hearing the logic of strategy. Of course, VEERs illustrations are wonderful additions though.

I agree, the cut and paste type are not usually interesting. The ones that talk about why you are doing what we see and with pictures and/or diagrams ore the best.

timtom in my opinion the way you present your AARs is perfecto!

Very enjoyable, very easy to read, and very informative.

And if you ever do up an AAR as the Japs, you already know I'm the Traitorous American Advisor....so I'll be there for ya with some whack-job strategy to stop Allied Aggression...

take care,

Firstly, I don't consider my AAR any better than anyone else’s, but thanks to everyone for all the positive feedback. It's always nice to be appreciated. [:)]Image

I like AARs which give some semblance of strategy and the 'Big Picture'. Pictures/maps are a nice plus. I like statistics too - Timtom has some of the best, and UV doesn’t make getting weekly stats very easy I must say [:@]. Cut and Paste of the Combat report is a no-no, though there are time when it's convenient. I like Timtom’s method of comments within the Combat Report, as well as Herbieh's - who almost never uses the Combat Report. Toraq has great maps – allows you to see what his plans are very easily.

The AAR Canoerebel & John have going is great too. The trick I believe is never to have too much text.
