Desert Fox Crashing Again: New Bug?

Post by AbsntMndedProf »

Up until recently, I've been playing the default scenarios since changing to the new mech.exe and OOB files. The last two scenarios, however, I tried to use one of the alternate scenarios. Each time, when I clicked the 'continue' button to start the scenario, the game shut down. When I returned to the saved file for that game, the default scenario started when I again clicked on the 'continue' button on the player settings page with the computer/human player buttons.

I'm running an 800 mhz Pentium III with 64 MB RAM, a 10GB HD with around 6 GBs of free memory. Before running SP:WaW I turn all background programs, such as Norton Anti-Virus off.

I'll keep trying to get into the alternate scenarios, and will post if I am able to do so. I hope this can be solved! Thanks!

First thing you probably ought to consider is increasing your system RAM. I just bought 256 Meg PC 133 RAM for $33.00 - that is not a misprint. Thirty-three dollars. I'd say, get your RAM up to a minimum of 128 and everything will run better, not just W@W.

What you have now is barely sufficient to handle Windows files that need to be always running.

I'll upgrade to 128 MB RAM next month, maybe even up to 256 MB. I hope that solves the problem.

I haven't had trouble in the end phase, but four times in 2 different camps; mega & long road, I've CTD'd after a mg-34 Bow(i think, both on vehicles) mg fires. Is this a know issue? I've played up to and past this point in the past. I did DL the new MG sounds but I think I've played the scenarios since then w\o problems. Sorry this is off topic, I just thought it might be a known issue. I have 128mb on a p3 500mhz and have had crashes to speak of until now.

I have experienced this problem. When I finish a scenario and choose the next one, clicking on the continue button made the game exit. I though it was general, but now that I think about it, it might only have happened when I chose the alternative scenarios (which are quite fun & smaller).

Only happened after starting to use the v7.0b.

Well, this is the third time that I've tried to play an alternate scenario since installing the new mech.exe and OOB files, 'Men With Talent', in the DF Mega-Campaign. Again, when I clicked on the 'Continue' button on the player selection screen, the game shut down. When I started the DF Mega-Campaign again and loaded the saved file, I was again presented with the default scenario.

I'll keep posting when I get to the next scenario, whether this continues. (Hopefully not.) <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

Every time that I save the game and re-start it without quiting the game to the desktop it crashes the first time that I fire at anything. Dan

I don't have an answer for you fellas at the moment. It appears that this is a problem with the coding of the Mega Campaign, not with the scenarios.

I know it must be very irritating for you. It would be for me.

Color is right, the alternate scenarios are smaller usually and very different, a lot of fun to play.

ALong with you, I hope Matrix can pinpoint this problem and you will be able to play any scenario you choose with a minimum of hassle.

I do admire your determination to see it through. And your comments do help us a lot to find what is causing these problems. Thank you all.

If the coding to the Mega-Campaign is causing this problem, then it might be some problem between it and the new code in the V7.0 mech.exe or OOB files. Prior to switching to the new mech.exe and OOB files, I had no problems playing the alternative scenarios.

I hope this helps narrow the search down some.
