Combat Animations gone

Post by Wolfie1 »

Since I updated to 1.57/1.6 I am unable to view any combat animations, I still get the combat reports just no animations. I'm aware that patching resets all the preferences and have checked that the animations are on. I often play with the animations off, just occasionaly I like to watch them. I've fiddled with the options but just cannot get them to work - anyone got any ideas?

Wolfie, I had that happen in your game a couple of days ago using 1.57. I ran my other game last night using 1.57 and had no problems. I'll run your turn tonight using 1.60. We'll see what happens.

Is it a PBEM game ?
In PBEM games there is the replay setting always set to the setting used by japanese player. Otherwise I have no clue.

Yes it's PBEM and I'm the Japanese. I had it happen to me and sent the turn to Wolfie. I must have hit the wrong button.

1.57/1.60 lock in the Japanese player's settings as part of the out of sync fix. Whatever the PBEM was set to is locked from that point on. For new PBEMs, I'd recommend setting them on, you can always skip past them.

Hi
Have your opponent (Japanese side) turn them back on.

He should be able to set them ... The Allied side can no longer change them to cut back on the sync problems.

So agree which way you want them ... I would suggest on ... You can always pound through with escape if you don't like them.

This is so typical. You threw out the baby (with no warning) with the dirty bath water. So now I have to negotiate with my opponent to see the animations. Un-fragging-believable!

Hi all,

I have had the smae problem. However, I am fairly sure I turend the combat summary's and animation ON from the main menu but still I see no combat animations only a summary. Is there somewhere else I should be turning these on?

There seems to be issues with V1.6 patch..that's for sure!

In my AAR game David (Allies) first upgraded to V1.6 and sent me the turn. I didn't upgrade for another turn, but when
I did (I also upgraded the OOB in the preferences menu) both the combat animations and the combat report had been turned OFF
even though I had turned them ON.

So I turned them BACK ON again!

When I got the turn back from David the combat animations and report were still OFF. So my settings (Japanese) were
clearly ignored by the AI.

We are experimenting a bit now: David sent me his last V1.5 turn and I loaded it in V1.6 and upgraded the OOB again.
Again the animations and combat report were turned OFF and I've now played the turn and turned them back ON.
We'll first know whether this works when I get the turn back again. If the animations and report are still OFF...something is really wrong.

Another thing: When I replayed my January 4th 1943 turn in V1.6 the turn didn't unfold as it did in V1.5. This time I put 8 torpedoes
into the USS Indiana. Pretty sure David won't be thrilled about this [:'(]

I sure hope this isn't the case PZB that they will reset no matter what I set them as! This will be looked into in my PBEMs too.

Must admit I got a bad feeling about this...

In my case the best case scenario seems to indicate that the Japanese player must upgrade first! If this wasn't done and problems occurred player 1 will have to replay the last turn before applying the patch and then upgrade the OOB again.

Worst case scenario: the combat animations and combat report options are turned off permanently and we have to reinstall WitP with V1.5 and continue
to use it until the issues have been fixed.

Has anyone else seen any occurrence of the settings re-setting despite what the player inputs?

My opponent redid the turn and ensured than he had animations on. I still recieved no combat animations. I loaded the turn and in my preference screen it shows animations on and indicates that I am in 1.6.

I guess I'll run the turn and see if it clears up. Maybe its just a transition problem.

In fact, this was in the v1.57 public beta as well. Sync issues were one of the #1 fix requests and it turned out this could affect them, so it was fixed. Typical in the sense that we tried to address a major issue that was affecting player enjoyment, yep. Just make sure the Japanese player has everything set on in terms of reports, then both can always just skip what they don't want to watch.

It may not be responding to setting changes and I'm thinking we should have explained this in more detail in the readme given the confusion that seems to have happened. The disappointing thing is that this was in v1.57 public beta without any complaints and I upgraded my own game twice without any problems at all. I will ask Mike to take a look and see if he has any advice on these reports.
