Alesia, Punic War

Post by africanus »

The Seige at Alesia was an unbelievable accomplishment - and was a great AH board game, the question is why hasn't it been recreated in a computer game? I know that there are some ADC conversions available, but the battle really deserves a new look. It would be interesting to see TS JC expanded to cover the battle in full, or have HPS take a shot at it.

Also, I can't seem to find a Punic War campaign game - any suggestions?

I would also like to see some Ancient Strategic games. West-Civ, the developers of Crown of Glory, have hinted that maybe down the road at some time they will delve into Ancients. I believe the main programer said that Roman Republic/Empire was a favorite era and he was pushing for such a game.

Legion Arena covers the 1st & 2nd Punic Wars. Its about the battles though, sieges are not modelled. Might be worth a look ;)

Well if you are adventurous you might be able to recreate these games with the Strategic Command 2 editor when the game is released....there are a few forum members who have expressed a desire to make games from this period and they have been told that it is possible to do, though there might be some compromises to be made.....if no one else will create the game you want, you might as well give the SC2 editor a try. Besides, the actual game will be worth the price anyway whether you use the editor or not..........

Dare I say, you can re-create the punic wars with the Rome Total War engine.

Lol you can say it, but, the vanilla engine is crap. But, since the guys that did Realism Total War actually turned RTW into a good game, if they did a mod for the Punic wars I'd try it out.
