Nomad pinch hits against PzB

Post by Nomad »

Well, I have had time to look at the turn and do a few things and look about a lot. No comments on how David left it since I do not have a complete understanding of what he was doing or how he got it.

I have played a lot of UV against PzB and I know him for an execellent player. He is very good at understanding his units and their strengths and weaknesses. I will have to play good to keep him from winning( note that I never beat him in UV [:@] )

The first couple of turns or so I do not expect to do much. I will be doing my own reorganizing and realigning. Plus it is hard to take over a game like this and be able to understand everything about the situation. I will look back over Davids last few AAR posts and see what his overall plan was. At least I do not have to worry about India [:(] And China and burma don't look to healthy either. That prety much leaves Central, South, and Southwest Pacific. I believe that major efforts will have to wait until june or july 1943, I need some F4Us and Essex CVs. [:D]

If anyone wants to try to interpret what David was doing, jump in. [&o]

I'm going to need lots of luck. I told PzB that I would like to ignore any auto-victory until after then of March 1943. That will give me almost 2 months to reorganize things the way I want them. [:)]

Well, you are 1 month away from Victory Weapon nº2 F4U Corsair. You can upgrade 1 VMF each 5 days. They eat Bettys at breakfast and Zeros at lunch. [8|]

Look at the map and mark what are your best VMF, so you can upgrade the best pilots to the best plane.

You are in a similar situation as the Allies before Watchtower.
I would pick one spot in the map, and attack it enforce.

You must seize the iniciative, at least temporarily, to blunt the Japanese edge.

If you wait until PzB picks his spot and comes enmasse, you are toasted. [:-]

I also willl send subs to pick survivors from Java, and rebuild those cadres. In late-43 you are going to have a shortage of assault points with all those divs gone.

And the most important thing, maintain the spirit up [&o][&o][&o]

Right now we are having some problems with applying the patch and getting ourselves synced. I think we are about there and we can really start going.

/edit There are NO units in Java to evacuate. [:(] 8 days to Essex arrival. I can then set up TFs with 5 total CVs( one a Brit so don't get too excited). I am short on repaired CAs, and CLs for escorts( probably DDs also ). I seem to be short on supply and fuel everywhere. Not critically short, but not enough to sustain any large attack efforts. Really looks like history sets it big foot down and I will attack in the Solomons and NG. [:D] I can cover those with Land Based fighters. And we all know what happens when those nice F4U cosairs arrive.

Japanese aircraft [:D] Gotta love it. ( we really need a smiley of a A6Mx going down in flames )

I say retreat.....I know this won't be a popular idea but it worked for the Russians.

I dont believe you have anything that you can throw at the Japanese right now that will work. I say build up what is left in the central and southern pacific. Reform all your supply traffic. I think the lack of supply is telling. You should have sufficient AKs and TKs left to set up some regular supply convoys. Build up your rear and then strike. You have a choice...you can go the central route or the southern route. Due to your lack of CVs right now I would think coming up from the south is your best bet. You can get some land based air cover going. You need to have the Corsairs and the Hellcats built up and in sufficient numbers before starting to engage the Japs. They are well dug in and not hurting like you are. This may take you a few months to get this all set up....will make for some boring play....but you should be able to turn the tide on this one...it will just take time. Remember the Japanese can never win in the long run.

Player #3 to be chewed up by Pzb. [;)]

Nah. Your at the point now where the Allied military units become superior to the Japs. Should be the end of Pzb's halo in the next month or two.

Hmmm, retreat is not really an option. But, I will be doing some small scale attacks in the Solomons and on NG. That is while I wait for those Corsairs and Hellcats. The biggest problem right now is getting the game upgraded to 1.6. We have done about 6 turns and I think we have regressed one day in total. [:@]

For those of you still watching here is the outline of my plan.

Central Pacific: Maintain some long range bombing while building Mili to level 4 airfield and use medium bombers to keep PzB honest in this area.

South Pacific: Continue to build the bases I have here and base the shorter range F4F-4 and use SBDs and Medium Bombers to protect and prepare the next Island( not sure which one yet )

NG: David had an attack going in to Buna and I am letting it continue. If I take Buna then NG gets most of the B-17s and B-24s to provide bombing everywhere, with Rabaul being a prime target.

And of course supply and fuel convoys go everywhere. It takes a lot of time to build up stockpiles.

The idea is to hold in the Central Pacific, maintain pressure in the Solomons and to threaten and/or execute a rapid advance up the northern shore of NG. I have to isolate Rabaul and bomb it out before that can happen. I want to force PzB to have to defend against me going to Palau and then SRA and/or PI.

Thanks guys.

I am probably the most strident advocate of in your face fighting against the Japanese starting from Decemeber 7 1941.

But I would still think about pulling in behind a strong defensive line and launching a strong blow later when your more ready.

I must say that ADavidB's post lead me to believe that he had put more effort into supply then wobbly had, but it sounds like you would disagree.

First what is "low" supply in your thinking?

For comparison I seldom go much above 100k supply at frontline bases early in the war (and I have never gotten past Sept 1942) but there is always a train of small convoys on the way with more.

Sounds like you need to organize your logistics, and also you need to put together a force that can win, and you don't have one right now. My usual approach is to attrit the Japanese on 6 fronts, China, India, SW PAC, S PAC, Cent PAC and submarines knowing that one of them will get weak pretty soon. You only have 4, and 3 of them are close together so he can use his central postion against you. So you need a hammer, like the 12 pound sledge on a 3' handle that I use to split logs for exercise.

Like I said, the supply situation is not critical, and I am not in any danger of having any bases out of supply. But, there are a limited number of TFs in the pipeline and no large supply dump in Australia. Most bases have something like 40,000 to 70,000 supply with smaller amounts of fuel. I like to stock either Sydney or Brisbane with 500,000+ supply and fuel before going off on large scale attacks. Since I never saw how Wobbly left the supply situation I can not completly comment on how David left it for me. Everyone has there own way of seeing things.

It will be a while before I can launch large scale operations in the Central Pacific. In real life the USN launched the Tarawa invasion in 11/43 so in that area the allies are ahead of schedule. I can continue to hold and do small island hopping in the Solomons. Again, in real life in 1/43 the US was still fighting Japan on Guadalcanal. David had an invasion of Buna in progress and I am hopeful I can continue that and take Buna. That should allow me to start a bombing campaign in that area. Again though, I need many more and better aircraft and I need to find a way to get the experience up. PzB is killing too many of my aircraft right now. This is something I will be looking at closely in the next turn or so. It may be time for some creative training.

Tom, your idea of having more fronts to attrit is what is driving me to launch attacks on Northern NG. The capture of Sorong and other bases in the area will give me places to start a possible drive into the Celebes area. That would expand the war in my favor. I could then support moving large amounts of supply and fuel into Darwin and launching into the DEI area. That would be interesting if I can find a way to do it before the end of 1943. It at least threatens attacks that would cut off oil production areas and PzB would be forced to fight hard there and by early 1944 I would have the CV power to continue assualts in the Central Pacific.

Death to PzB. [:D]

Still no word from Mike Woods and/or Nik. I hate waiting almost as much as replaying multiple turns. [:(]

I think every 4 star poster on the forum should play this game against PzB for 2 months.

Just a thought.

You do have a huge advantage now as you would have read PZB's AAR thread. So you know what he plans and where his forces are.[;)]

Well, I wouldn't cheat anyone and certainly not PzB, we have a pretty long history back to UV. If I can't win fair and square, I will lose with aplomb. [:)] I have read some of his thread but not that much and none since I took over. I was always more interested in how David viewed things and how he felt he could wrest victory from the jaws of defeat. I really don't care that much about winning or losing, I just want to have fun, besides it is a win-win situation for me. If I lose I can always point to the starting position. If I win I can claim to be a great player. [:D]

Sorry guys, unless I fall dead, I will be the last allied player in this game. [:-][8D]

Just a bump on my part before this goes off to the third page. [:(] We are still waiting for some kind of solution to PzBs missing/AWOL units.

Ok, a decision has been made. John sent me the 1/3/43 turn which is a 1.5 turn for sure. I have a 1.5 installation just for Johns game [:)] I did that turn and in a day or two John should be returning it. We will see what happens. Still the same as far as I can see. Hold in the Central Pacific( building Mili up to max to provide a good medium bomber and fighter base ). Advance in the Solomons and NG. I will be trying to advance up the Northern coast of NG to try to provide a threat aimed at either the SRA or the PI. Supply convoys have been set up from the West Coast to main distribution centers behind the front. I need to find some APs to provide troop movement shipping. LSTs and such should be showing up soon along with F4Us. I look around and feel short on everything, so a bit of waiting is at hand. No major attacks on large bases are planned, mostly surrounding attacks and build ups are planned for the first months. I will have more detail in a few turns or so, it takes a while to get a good understanding of where, what , and when.
