These are losses for 3 days (14-17-25). Jap search planes were massacred over Lunga (100+ CAP). Seagulls are from my TF that was sunk in one night by 3 consecutive IJN attempts to bombard Henderson Field (3CA, 4 CLs 7DDs). I've lost around 250 VPs but successfully protected the base. Sound tactical defeat.

In the original example Pauk listed here, I'm the IJN Admiral in question who lost all those float search planes. I'm currently visiting Java for the second time and this time it is even worst. Arround 30 float planes shot down that were launched from ships on standard Naval Search missions. One AVG pilot is now ace with 7 kills...

Apart from setting all ship board float planes to training 0% is there any other way to avoid destruction while near well CAP-ed enemy bases?

You might try them on ASW as opposed to Naval Search. I don't know if that will help, but it might.

But if I put them on ASW they will not spot enemy TFs? I guess I'll try them on 20000 feet and see if that will help, although I'm out of search planes at the moment...

Back in UV they were flying at 6000 feet and no TF ever sailed without search planes. In WiTP they are still set on 6000 feet default out of the box, but I have a feeling that since 1.50 CAP efficiency against them was dramatically raised. I guess it was an attempt to town down the mighty Doriner search-ship killer plane, but the end result is IJN search planes are crap... Original post was from 1.50 and it is still happening with 1.60

In the last turn even Vals from CVs were killed in numbers although not as much as Alfs and Daves.

what? no whining against uber CAP? Hey guys i'm suprised....[:D]

Seriously, it seems that only way for avoiding situations like this are:

1. setting them to the training 0%
2. Pulling them off the ship

Another possible house rule to combat uber CAP: have a max CAP% of 50 (or possibly even 40) for all fighter groups at all times. Maintaining a standing CAP was not the simple thing IRL that the game makes it be. There is always the possibility that other fighters in the hex can scramble to join the defense.....
