Two Questions

Post by sstarer »

I'm new to this game, but played plenty of PacWar back in the day. I have two things I would like to ask about. First is how much of the original code from PacWar made it in to this game? I never played UV; perhaps a better question is whether the game is more a derivitive of the latter.

The other questions I have regard the information to be gleened via the map. I was able to find documentation relating LCU strength to the icon color - darker is stronger. But I have seen pips in place of port icons, and pips "attached" to task forces, and I have yet to find or figure out their meaning. Any pointers to this info will be gladly accepted.

And apologies now if I'm totally off-topic for this forum.

The pip or star on a task force or port indicates mines. If the port is mined it will show the star in a colour that corisponds to the side that laid the mine, red Japanese, green Allied. On a task force it indicates a mine warfare order, minesweeping or mine laying.

Graphics and level of detail are much better, but many design deficencies have not been improved - some things never change, e.g. generic supplies or 0-9 port sizes without real size limitations effects. Other things have changed to become worse - SIGINT can no longer be directed to prospective targets, it is now randomly giving 'useful information' like "Radio transmissions detected at Tokyo". Still a very good game (I'm playing nothing else since it came out), but unfortunately not the dream game I will be happy with for the rest of my life. But I'm still young and I hope there will be a WitP II.

Someone has created a replacement set of artwork that keeps them all the same colour. Think it was Subchaser.

Go take a look at the mods on Spooky's web site.

You know, in a lot of ways Pacwar was better. Assignment to HQs ment something in that game, not so here really. As LST said the intell abilities in Pacwar was far superior. Daily turns is nice vs a week, but when it takes longer to fight the war in the game than it took in real life, Im not so sure thats a good thing.

Maybe GG's next project will be a Pacwar with 2 or 3 day turns with the sigint and political points that makes sense. Make Malaya a restricted command again even. [:D]

Not meaning to hi-jack the thread but one thing I would like to see is Allied free-deployment prior to the start of the game. These forces are deployed in the PI, these in Malaya, these in DEI, these in India, ect. but allow them to be placed at will within these areas. This way the Japs dont know where is what and cant make these long range outragous moves because they know ahead of time what forces are where. Historically the Japs knew about half of where forces were deployed and even at that they greatly over estimated their capibility.
