Printing the manual

Post by DrewMatrix »

I too got tired of the cost of ink cartridges, so I bought a cheap laser printer this weekend in part because of the general ink-cartridge expense problem, but in part just so I could print out the COG manual cheaply.

The printer (Samsung bottom of the line) cost me $29.95 (!) at Fry's with all the mail in rebates (there were 3 rebates and you can collect on all three. It was $129,95 before the rebates). Compare that to the (low volume) inkjet cartridges costing $40.

The manual is about about 90 pages, the replacement carttridges cost $70 and are rated at 3000 pages (and the cheap Samsung has a "toner saver" button on it - the output looks fine on toner saver).

Assuming the 3000 pages (not on toner saver) is optomistic but with toner saver I get at least 3000 pages my cost in ink was only $2.10 (plus the paper). The illustrations are easily viewed in grayscale.

Oh yeah, it took less than 3 minutes to print the entire manual.

I am sold on cheap laserjets from now on for anything that really doesn't require color.
