Can you be a little more specific please. We went back and forth on Vanguard's armament as intended, as approximated for Pacific service (which never actually happened), and as finally completed. The current class entry represents our best information for Pacific service. If you have additional data we'd love to have it.

In the mod version i was playing the Vanguard had 12- 5.25s, 6on the left 6 on the right in double mounts.

As completed the Vanguard had 16 5.25s in the same configuration as the KGV class.

I can not find any reason that we had three twin mounts per side instead of four and I guess it was an error. A number of people contributed to the specifications, which were difficult to isolate in 1945 for a ship that was not actually completed until 1948.

But it does look like four twins per side is correct and I will add the fix to the change list. If anyone has other data, please let me know.

Actually Don, the Vanguard was commissioned in 9 Aug 1946. Commissioning actually indicates a completed status (now she probably needed worked up, post-commissioning workups, etc. One have to admit that her auto-loading 5.25's probably needed some tweaking, as well as her advanced fire control. However, I have to question the inclusion of this ship in the database and even the inclusion of the Midway Carriers? Even in a extended scenario into 1946 these ships wuold not be able to contibute.

Lenton, in British and Dominion Warships of the Second World War, gives a completion date of April 25, 1948. A CHS contributor from England provided the estimates for her armament as of an (originally planned??) early completion. Phil has not been on the forum in a while and I really can not answer too many questions without his help.

Oscar Parkes, British Battleships 1860 to 1950, pegs it at April 1946. Every source I can find places her in completed and in commission by no later that autumn 1946. Parks also mentions that she was in refit in 1947-1948, which might be when the fancy 6 barrelled 40mm were installed. Parkes lists her originall 40mm as 11 twin mounts.

In 1947 she served transported the Royal Family to South Africa:

When it was decided that a Royal visit would be made to South Africa, HMS Vanguard arrived at The Royal Naval Dockyard in Portsmouth in August 1946 for the conversion for the Royal Tour which included the provision of the Royal Apartments for the accommodation of Their Majesties the King and Queen and the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.

http://www.hms-vanguard.co.uk/ (a website by a person who served on her for two years), also states april 1946.
