Update Plans

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Update Plans

Post by Erik Rutins »

Thought some may have missed this, so I'll create a separate thread. Eric Babe posted the update plans for Crown of Glory:

The first patch is mainly about getting the save/restore to detailed combat feature implemented, though there are a few tooltips added and I made some attempts to fix the alt-tab issues and the CTD's (only testing can tell whether I was successful).

Here's the version history going into the first patch so far:

Changes 1.00->1.1
--------------------
* Added tooltip manual text to choose-upgrade dialog
* Added tooltip info in Relation Adviser
* Added some right mouse button info in attachment box
* Now shows current move orders as very faint arrows
* Increased AI run away from detailed combat threshhold
* Tweaked detailed combat AI parameters
* Added save/restore features in single-player detailed combat

The next patch will also mainly be about fixing bugs and adding in-game information (tooltips, additional reports... especially economic information). Also some of the simpler game-balancing tweaks.

We'll shoot for a features patch down the road to add more leader abilities, upgrades, and other game features.

Erik - will the "jiggling units" UI issue be fixed (a personal, ergonomic showstopper!).

Wasn't that what Bob Hope had on his USO tours? Those are morale boosters for the troops!

Interesting you mention that because Bob Hope gave me a headache too...

As far as I know, a "no jiggle" option is planned but it's not a priority for the first patch.

Erik, all it will take is to switch off functionality and add an Exclaimation Mark icon. I'll help with adding in the Mark if I can.

I know that not all bugs/suggestions can be implemented - I have been software long enough to know that - but I think a showstopper for a loyal customer - and I have tried PBEM with 3 people with the same issue to varying degrees and who have left it aside until this is fixed - should have some priority, particularly a piece of work that does not alter game logic and which would require little functional testing.

Kevin,

It's not that we don't value you as a customer, but we simply that we have limited time. This request will be addressed, but I can't promise it for the first patch.

Regards,

Erik, what about the "undo" option in the strategic map?

Yes, that's planned as well. Rather than answering all of these point by point, if I can just say that the designers, developers and the testing team and our own staff have been going over these forums and noting all the suggestions and requests.

The first three updates will include not only bug fixes, but several significant improvements based on our pre-release plans for post-release features as well as feedback from our customers. We'll keep you posted of what is planned and what is done. Our priority at this point is to get a smaller first update with the enhanced save feature out quickly and focus on making the second update more comprehensive.

We are all enthusiastic about this game, but going through and seeing the number of "perhaps this can be in the first update" comments, I want to make sure I inject some realism here before people get disappointed.

Actually Bob wasn't doing the jiggling. It was the dozen or so girls he brought with him to Utapao in 1972 that were jiggling if I remember correctly.

Here's the current list. Eric has also been implementing changes where he can to try to catch the occasional detailed battle crash issue, but hopefully the detailed battle save capability will help a lot with both catching that issue and also minimizing its effect.

Changes 1.00->1.1
--------------------
* Should load save files from 1.0
* Added tooltip manual text to choose-upgrade dialog
* Added tooltip info in Relation Adviser
* Added some right mouse button info in attachment box
* Now shows current move orders as very faint arrows
* Increased AI run away from detailed combat threshhold
* Tweaked detailed combat AI parameters
* Added save/restore features in single-player detailed combat
* Fixed highest-glory victory screen bug
* Lowered victory points for surrender to 4000 (2000 for limited surrender)
* Decreased glory awarded for winning a war

Dunno. AFAIK, the process is that we abuse the daylights out of what the game will let us do, and then Eric considers whether it was desirable or not. (In other games we call this 'nurfing the beta players tactics', but I prefer to put a more positive slant on it.)

So it's just a way to make things less easy for human players and to make the AI a bit more challenging...?

I believe it was done to slow down the ww2 like conquest of the map....could be wrong though.
