Svend Karlson vs Jan Sorensen : Allied thread

Post by JanSorensen »

Svend and I have decided to do an AAR on our latest game.
options: 1.040, AV off, fuel on.
English isnt my first language - so expect less than the perfect.

This is the second game between Svend and I. In our first game Svend completely annihilated me. I made several mistakes in countering his subs and as such were unable to properly support Russia which fell. The only positive for me was that I out of desperation launched the US fleet towards Nippon and almost managed to instantly strangle hte Japanese economy.

Anyhow, on to the present game.

Spring 40:

The Germans appear not to have any aspirations towards Spain as no extra units are moved to France. I hence expect a 41 attack on Russia - possibly in the form of the traditional sandwich. I hence deploy the northern convoy and deliver the first 30 supplies to Russia.

In China I decide to deploy my forces in 2 stacks forward. I have found that deploying in the rear just leads to being bombed to nothingness over the first 4-6 turns so I try to atleast pose a threat.

Summer 40:
The Germans keep their panzers in France and send more troops. I wonder if they are going for Spain after all. I personally think waiting a turn and losing that momentum is less than optimal but we shall see. I search the map for the 3 German heavy bombers - as I cannot find them I assume they are in the south of Italy possibly to threaten the English Med fleet. My first idea is to pull back the fleet to Cairo and simply defend all around.

However - then I decide just to take a peek at Denmark with a transporter - and lo and behold - 1 inf, 1 ftr, 1 art.

Commence operation EAST PRUSSIAN GAMBIT.

The 2 CaG + 1 heavy bomber set out for Denmark - and take out both the Ftr and Art for the loss of one CaG. The bulk of the Royal Navy then set sail into enemy waters and manage to drive the Kriegsmarine away making way for an invasion of the lone German Inf in East Prussia. The invasion is a foregone conclusion and I send in all the reinforcements I can muster (note to self: next time dont make an error in transporter placement that meant I couldnt take more in than I could).

The end result can be seen below (assuming I manage to post a screenshot).

Its not quite certain that the Germans cannot push me out - but odds are definitely on my side.
