Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
[font="Courier New"]ok I got a few questions
1. Do I understand this supply/ukeep thingy right? Lets take a look at inf and cav unit and see what it cost to supply/upkeep, compared to depot supplie, forage and garison.
Infantry at depot: $1 + 2 food + upkeep of $2 = $3 + 2 food
Infantry doing forage: Nada + upkeep of $2 = $2
Infantry in garison: $1 + 2 food+ upkeep of $1 = $2 + 2 food (units in garison only pay ½ the upkeep)
Cav reg. at depot: $1 + 1 food + upkeep of $4 = $5 + 1 food
Cav reg. doing forage: Nada + upkeep of $4 = $4
Cav reg. in garison: $1 + 1 food + upkeep of $2 = $2 + 2 food (units in garison only pay ½ the upkeep)
So did I get it right or did I miss somthing. I know it can change alot if you go beyond 20 units in an area and if you in enemy areas but this is just the basics. So is this right[&:]
2. Is there a reason for (I play Turkey) that you can't detach divisons from the Egyptian armys in Egypt, but you can reinforce em to the city garison and then detach em from the garison...just wondering???
3. Is there a way to cancle/disable/disband produced units/feudals/free inf if you know what I mean. Its not easy to handle your economi if the game keeps spiting out units that you can't afford the upkeep for.
4. I got an ultimatum from Austria at 1 point telling me to withdraw my units from there border. I thought np...but hey can I please move my units instead of letting the game put em all in same spot just before checking for forage.......sheesh 25k of em deserted my armies or died because of that[X(]. Is it picking random areas to move units to or just 1 and move em all there...real pain, next time I will tell Austria to go ..ehhh...go...look for frence or prusian ppl to bully...[:D]
One more thing...this game feels right and I like it alot.....not that I have played alot. But just last time I lend some troops to russian for there fight against prusia and spain. Wonder what spain/prusia would say...hey russian flag but its the damd Turks.....man they going to get it...they did out of 80k I send I think only 26k made it to POW...lol
Thx for any replies[:)]

That's an exploit probably. Shouldn't be able to detach or attach units to protectorate armies.
RE: Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
Shouldn't matter if they are going to the protectorate's cities. That seems reasonable. In fact, I usually dump the militia in those Egyptian armies into their cities once they build some infantry.

Seems right to me. Note that you don't pay upkeep on plundering units etc.ORIGINAL: jinks

You are not allowed to remove a native division from a native corps or army. This prevents you just using the corps/army counter without any native troops. You can freely transfer men. I would encourage native losses from the militia army, and consolidate the men, allowing some divisions to be disbanded by the game - then you can add better divisions. For flexability, I would put Turk units into the native army, and put native divisions into Turkish armies: then you retain some flexibility.2. Is there a reason for (I play Turkey) that you can't detach divisons from the Egyptian armys in Egypt, but you can reinforce em to the city garison and then detach em from the garison...just wondering???
I believe you can even transfer men from native divisions into Turkish divisions.
Yes - reduce your feudal level, which requires spending national morale!3. Is there a way to cancle/disable/disband produced units/feudals/free inf if you know what I mean. Its not easy to handle your economi if the game keeps spiting out units that you can't afford the upkeep for.
-- I agree it would be nice to have control over the levy, to raise UP TO the entitlement number of units, so sometimes you could leave them in the population. But the game doesn't provide that at the moment.
-- There is no way in COG to disband a division, other than reducing its number of men to below 1000 so it gets cleaned up.
They get moved to the closest territory you have access to (whether home nation, allied, or access from treaty) - you get no control. Eric advises that he often maintains a depot at that closest point "just in case". I let em starve.4. I got an ultimatum from Austria at 1 point telling me to withdraw my units from there border. At the moment, I don't think it hurts your relationship at all - against the AI. Human players may get miffed. This is a good example fo the sort of thing I think should be tweaked to make the AI more like playing a person. One more thing...this game feels right and I like it alot.....not that I have played alot. You are very welcome. - Enjoy.Thx for any replies[:)]

RE: Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
Well, almost right anyway but there is one typo.
Looking at Cav Reg in garison, $1 + 1 food + $2 = $3 + 1 food, NOT $2 + 2 food.

It calls me into question whether, by gaining entry into (and getting registered as) garrisions, they are promoted to first-class (protector-nation's) citzens.ORIGINAL: carnifex

RE: Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
No. You cannot detach tribal divisions from a tribal army or corps. There is no exploit here.

RE: Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
This is not the exploit you are looking for. Move along, move along...

No, they're still the worthless undisciplined rabble, but at least they're not starving for lack of forage [:D]
By the way, to recreate this exploit, give individual divisions an "Auto Join..." order to Cairo, Alexandria, and Damascus. Next turn you will be able to move them normally from the cities.

RE: Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
I have been trying to place units in cities when inactive and possible as I thought better but this analysis says it actually costs more. But... when you forage you can take casualties so you have that to factor in the decision also??
Am I seeing this correctly?

RE: Depot supplie/Forage/Garison???
Well I tested the supply thing and it seem to work like I thought.
Regarding saving money/food I try to keep inf forageing instead of putting in garrison.
inf $2(forage) compared to $2+2food in garison

Thanks Carnifex - thats a bug. Auto-join should not circumvent the 'you can't remove tribal divisions from a tribal corps/army rule'. Sort of neat that it does, though.
