Don't end the war too quickly!

Post by Malagant »

I've seen a lot of posts about rushing to the enemies capital to drop their NML to end a war quickly.

In playing 1792 Scenario as the French, I've tried to not end a war too quickly...I want time to capture the enemies Protectorates!

If an enemies Protectorate territory surrenders to me, it's mine. I control it's production and get it's income. I don't have to bargain with anyone anymore. I own it.

If I go capture an enemy 'home provence' (i.e. one that's not a protectorate), it will drop his NML and take away his production, but to get that territory to be mine I have to force him to cede the territory at the peace negotiations.

That being said, I try to capture all the enemy protectorates I can while defending my own territories, and only when I'm satisfied that I've taken all the protectorates that I want do I push hard to take the enemies homelands to force a surrender.

Yup - the leisurely route.

And you will probably get a lot more VPs to take provinces with in the surrender - you get some for every sity you take from him, not just his cities you have occupied that you give back at the end of the war.

The devs may rebalance this a little moving forward - dunno.

I played long games (180mths/5000gps) a lot. Malagant's way is superly advisable, as more ownership of provinces will act as a stronger economic basis for long-term drives for victory.
