Crown of Glory does not launch!

The install went well, the menu opens and then... clicking on "play" does not launch the program. I tried by selecting "Crown of Glory Quick Start", nothing happens either!!! [:@]
I have not found anything related to this on the forum.
I don't see what I can do...

Do any COG related .exe files show up in your task manager? Which OS are you using?

Yes it does show up ("COG Gamemenu (SA)".
I am using Windows XP.
I have tried to install on my professional laptop (Windows XP as well) and there... it works.
Could it be that the software does not run on Athlon 64? (it would be a first since I bought my Alienware 9 months ago).

I have closed SPYWARE DOCTOR (which always runs on my PC) and now... it launches!!! [:D]

I downloaded the patch and i can print out the manuals and readmes, but when i hit play i get a drumroll and nothing else. the main menu just stays there.

i have disabled my anti-spyware etc., have even done a reboot in selective startup to try it that way, and again the same thing...all i get is the play and drum roll....


now what can I do?

My guess is that the problem, grandviceroy, is in your video codecs that are trying to play the opening game movies since the drumroll is part of those files. If you go into the game's Video folder and delete or rename the WCSIntro and matrixintro files (and perhaps also the intro file) then you may be able to skip these introductory videos and get into the game. (There may be an error box that pops up when Windows can't find the files, but in this case you should be able to close the error box and continue.) I hope this helps. If it doesn't, please let me know and we can figure out something else to try.

thanks eric...renaming all three files in the video (then restarting the computer) did the trick. works like a charm.

by the way, i was able to individually open each video intro (the third one, which i renamed 'pretty nappy pix' was nice...but none are necessary to playing the game)

i played around for a few hours, won some battles in detailed and quick, and have lots of questions about how to do things that the tutorial obviously does not tell you...but before i ask you i will read the 95 pp manual and see if the answers are there (and if not, THEN you'll hear more from me)

again, thanks. game looks like a lot of fun, if a bit overwhelming initially.....
