How so then?
I'm open to any comments on it, not just what the betas think.

Since you asked, I can see myself looking around for a map mod, or installing the WitP map, after about 10 mins of play.

Comments on it seem to be half and half. Half don't like, and half like the atmosphere. I supposed its a d*mned if you do, d*mned if you don't sort of thing.
What then, would you prefer for a more period looking map?

RE: New Screenshots
It's almost impossible to tell the different types of terrain with that style of map. Of course, if land combat plays no part in War Plan Orange then it may not be a problem. Personally, I don't find that the over-used technique of applying a sepia effect to any graphic necessarily gives it a "period" feel, and that a sepia effect per se doesn't invoke a 1920's feel.

RE: New Screenshots
Well, I can see where you are coming from on that. The map actually looks better with the deep color switch on.
On the period feel, the best period style map (brown land, light blue water) would make it impossible to have terrain. And terrain does play a part in WPO, but it can also reflect that terrain may not be as well charted as in WW2.
If after playing it for a while you want a map mod, go ahead. But the betas, after getting used to it, seem to like it, so all I ask is give it a chance.
Besides, map mods won't necessarily reflect the new road and rail lines in WPO.

RE: New Screenshots
hmmmmmm.........
I will have to play on it before passing judgment...however I am sure that the map nuts will have about 3 mods out for this immediately after release so ppl will be able to play in whatever color they wish...including purple..green or orange
what is missing from the top line? Looks like there are fewer buttons on there...or am I just crazy...both are distinct possibilities.
ohhh one thing...Canton is shown as Chinese....I thought it was a Portuguese controlled city?

RE: New Screenshots
Well, like I said the map is split both ways, but I am back to the drawing board.
On Canton, no Pourteguese nation in the engine, so I assigned it China.
Oh, and the button missing is Auto Convoy, fixed in the new beta version.

Will Portugal be added before the release?
RE: New Screenshots
Don't think so. I was wanting to have Germany added, for some post release WW1 scenarios, but Mike says it would create too many bugs.
The new new map:

Would this be better for you guys? Also note the "fathom" lines are not there with the deepcolor switch on.

Well, I see them [:'(]

Sorry, let me rephrase.
They are not there with deep color and screenshots not in MS paint [:D]

RE: New Screenshots
Don't worry, Im including both maps. While the second one is the primary one, the brown one can be copied over and installed over it.

RE: New Screenshots
I prefer the second map, it's much easier on my old eyes. The first one is not exactly bad either, but it does look a little weird.

The new map (second one) is much better.
The first one looks too washed out.
But since you are including both, then everyone should be happy...
